What good are notebooks?

Not here for anything in particular, you'll just have to go with vibes (although films [movies], motorsport, politics, and culture seem to come up a lot.)
I am a human adult with well-informed opinions about movies but I am capable of irrationality which means I am going to rewatch the Batmans Nolan just to piss off Bluesky.
"the rocket’s second stage remained in space, floating aimlessly among thousands of other pieces of space junk that active satellites must steer clear of." Just a reminder that there's an ethos behind all of this, and it's not one of stewardship. www.theguardian.com/science/2026...
SpaceX rocket thought to have crashed into the moon in unintentional collision
Four-tonne piece of SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket believed to have hit lunar surface on Wednesday at 5,400 miles an hour

"BP’s chief executive has urged Andy Burnham to make use of the UK’s oil and gas resources even as the oil company prepares to sell its North Sea business after 60 years in the ageing basin." @secondmentions.com
Open Your Mind is quite properly an extra track off of the album, never understood why it wasn't on there. And possibly having this next to Fine Time on the shelf was too much yellow in one place.

Elon is talking about using robots to build a mass accelerator on the moon in support of an economy 1000x to 1 million times the current earth economy. It's a bad sci fi novel not an earnings call.
The function. Of a lav mic. Is to be hands-free. It is specifically made. To NOT. BE. HELD. UP. TO. YOUR. FACE.
So it's good that there will be some unexpected sciencing off the back of Falcon-9 hitting the moon but there's a lot of championing of that going on and not enough skeets asking "why didn't that fuckhead put it in a disposal orbit"
Yeah don't do business with Ferrari. Worse than Ellison. (This is the guy that fucked the entire customer base over on WeTransfer and then sacked 75% of the staff, sacked all the *video* people at Vimeo, etc etc)
Airtable was just acquired by Bending Spoons. Goodbye to Airtable. If your business runs on Airtable or worse, if your business IS Airtable, you need to make an exit plan. I wrote about what this means for small business owners. www.revenuerulebreaker.com/airtable-was...
I've ONLY JUST realised I could have had an Illuminatus bit going for the whole of the Odyssey discourse, especially given it's the same goddam golden apple.
We apologise for the low key socials and are resolving to improve. Thankfully we now have assistance, pictured here. In the meantime, Episode 51: Shine 5 On You Crazy Diamond is available wherever you get your podcasts! As are all the others!
And now you know why they were strangely reluctant to lend any to Ukraine.
U.S. has used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war: Reuters
You could have just bought literally any of the streaming services that aren't Spotify. Or play mp3 on your phone *exactly like on an iPod.* Music is the one service which isn't saturated with enshittification. Hell, they even made sideloading a bit easier.
Tech enshittification has me purchasing a new iPod and Nintendo 3DS like it's the mid-2010s again
And yes, I'm not renewing in April either. Worth noting the "push everyone up to AI tier without telling them" autorenew from last year is now under investigation in the UK.
It is the single worst deliberate change I have ever seen made to a product, and might be what stops me using Microsoft Office after…25+ years? Imbecilic product decision, but just one among *many*.
Plus, in the consumer version if you start a document *in* Word it saves it... somewhere. Ostensibly in "your" cloud but it doesn't show up in OneDrive, as far as I can tell. And don't get me started on the unique folder navigation if you want to save it somewhere you can actually find it again.
The most terrifying enshittification I've discovered has been learning that Microsoft Word documents no longer auto-save if you are not saving them to one of their own proprietary cloud services. I'm slapping control-S like it's 1999.
@leepkelly.bsky.social Not me humming Burial to myself and thinking how that would be a perfect fit if this was a scene in a film (not that sort)
Oh, so you didn't know Ken Shirriff was here, OK
frankly the most annoying part of my day every day is encountering someone who is on here “for liberal politics” so I am actually in favor of expanding our reach. we gotta bring over like, those guys who get horny for old elevators
My thoughts on Bluesky not being welcoming to Republicans is that it's one political party in one nation out of 200+ and you all need to understand what "global" actually means instead of dedicating an entire platform to discussing one group of attention-seekers 24/7 thus handing them victory
My thoughts on Bluesky not being welcoming to Republicans is Trump blocks disaster relief to states voting blue, & is also legally codifying anyone who opposes him as a terrorist deserving violence, & his kidnapping brute gangs terrorize the streets, & there's much more but I'm out of characters
It's not entirely surprising for a Canadian automotive business to pause tarriff-tastic American motorsport in favour of developing Canadian Motorsport, quite a few of us thought that would happen last season! #IMSA needs to think about this.
Health secretary Yvette Cooper gives excellent speech about foreign policy and climate change, is what I seem to have just read there then
And you'd think that this isn't the third time this has happened in four years...
I highly recommend the excellent summary of the history in their Wikipedia page, whoever wrote that did a great job, citations and everything, that guy should contribute to Wikipedia more often
Reading half the reaction to Pfaff you'd think they'd been a Lamborghini outfit since 2014... #imsa
xkcd putting out an edition for which you have to *actually* be a geek and also not assume computing began in 2005 has set geek Bluesky on fire.
That surely is nominative determinism. You know, like what happened to Bob Armco
I don’t root for anyone to crash but when it’s Jon Field… #imsa
Although I have just remembered what a *total* shitshow this was last year, so... progress? #IMSA
