Research should inform policy but that’s tricky if it is almost entirely driven by policy. The independence of research is key to change because if you fund only research that responds to policy (even good policy) you’re less innovative, creative & responsive to the open options of the future.

Today I was told to take out a line about being a mentor to students from diverse backgrounds and historically underrepresented groups from my biosketch for a proposal, because it might damage our chances of getting federal funding. How has it come to this? I feel absolutely sick.

Mark your calendars! This webinar focuses on uplifting underrepresented faculty to share stories of their journey from student to academic. The focus is on navigating challenges and finding sources of encouragement. There will also be a Q&A! Students and faculty/staff are welcome!
