Cambs Fire & Rescue Service have shared a plea for visitors to Holme Fen to please not cross the cordoned off sections. The ground may be very unstable, looking safe on the surface but burnt hollow underneath! They’ll keep checking for hotspots over the next few days.

Our thanks to the numerous teams tackling the Holme Fen fire and to everyone who’s shown concern for this special site. Please share how important it is that any ignition source, from the smallest cigarette ember to portable bbqs and campfires are kept well away from our flammable dry peat soils!

Our monitoring trainees, Maisy and Daniel, on #waterquality adventures this week. Regularly assessing the oxygen and pH levels (amongst other factors) enables us to quickly respond to any negative changes that could affect the wildlife. Fortunately, all was good this time around. @wildlifebcn.org

It is a sunny day with blue sky.Daisy kneels on a wooden bridge over a reed-lined pond. Next to her is a grey case with monitoring equipment.
Daisy climbs up a reed-lined embankment along a waterway holding a long-poled and a hand-held piece of monitoring equipment.
