NYC has a near total ban on the construction of new hotels. It’s been in place since 2021 and no politician, as far as I know, has ever so much as mentioned it since it was passed.

Tbf I think a lot of people will end up changing their meat consumption now that fiber is becoming the food fad rather than protein—all the food influencers are about to discover beans and lentils

I’m also earnestly kinda curious if this holds up once California learns how to build apartment buildings—the land values in blue states to justify greater density are much higher than red states for the most part
ae@aelkus.bsky.social · 3w agoyeah this is specifically a “blue states are losing to a few southern states with goldilocks aggregations of industrial, creative, and academic industries in urban cores with good living conditions” which i think puts a different spin on it
I enjoy watching the USMNT because every 4 years I see clear improvement and it’s fun to be an underdog; but I mean, I also like to think they’ll sweep it all one day (when I’m an old man)

Just never going to happen, so why not focus on regional rivalries? That'll make the occasional over-performance even sweeter.

Kind of interesting that this single-family house near the epicenter of the Journal Sq/Homestead Pl construction boom on Van Reipen Ave just sold for 2% *less* adjusting for inflation than it did in March 2018, despite the new retail amenities in the area.
Douthat’s entire job is to be the Right’s devil’s advocate for the NYT audience—it’s actually kinda meaningful that he’s reaching a blank in terms of “reasons to support the GOP”

As the guy who wrote the book on zoning abolition, I'd like to go on record as saying: if you can use zoning to stop the concentration camps, fucking go for it.

These warehouses often need to be purchased, permitted, approved for occupancy and specs. Each one of those steps can be interrupted. Ppl are pressuring corps not to sell, counties to deny permits, etc
