Ben Wildeboer@willyb.bsky.social · 3w agoI like this idea - even though most of the time the top 3 teams qualify for the next World Cup anyway (I believe the last time any of the top 3 team didn't qualify was Turkiye, who finished 3rd in 2002 & didn't qualify for 2006). It's still a benefit to not have to worry about qualifying.

If we count all 4 of Uruguay's stars, as of today's games we've eliminated 12 stars from.the competition (Italy, 4; Germany, 4; Uruguay, 4). Came close to taking out Brazil's 5 stars, but alas. 12 out of 24 stars remain in the tournament. Brazil-5 Argentina-3 France-2 England-1 Spain-1
