We started the mark recapture project of florivores in Latnjajaure. Bombus lapponicus is so far the most common and truly beautiful but a species which previously was really rare at this elevation.

This must stop! We need a full arms embargo and sanctions now, so this killing with impunity ends. Our new Canadian govt and PM need to speak up! www.theguardian.com/world/2025/m...

RESEARCH PAPER 🔬 „Given the similar #insect #biomass and #abundance between the two habitat types, #Natura 2000 areas do not seem to broadly benefit flower visitors more than #urban wastelands.“ - Theodorou et al. (2025) @wilosterman.bsky.social Article: doi.org/10.1016/j.ba...
Excited to see this out!! In this thought-provoking review led by @davidperis.bsky.social and Ricardo Pérez-de la Fuente we further demonstrate that insect #pollination was once widespread among #gymnosperms and existed long before the origin of #angiosperms onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
📢 Viewpoint in New Phyt. on polyploid establishment! Key take-homes🧵 1. In contrast to earlier hypotheses that pollinators can help new polyploids establish, we suggest that pollinators mainly prevent polyploid establishment because outcrossing increases the strength of minority cytotype exclusion.
📢 New study: Insect Biomasse & abundance were similar in protected areas & urban wastelands, but 🐝wild bee diversity was higher in urban areas! Protected areas (Natura 2000) may need targeted management to support pollinators. 👇 www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... @wilosterman.bsky.social
Our study is finally out on the conservation of pollinators 🐝🦋: Protected areas (Natura2000) do not outperform urban wastelands in support pollinators and pollination in central Germany. 👇 doi.org/10.1016/j.ba...
Ice crystals today in the forest around Gothenburg in Sweden. How cool aren’t they?!
How cool arent these Vaccinium trees and their blueberry-flowers in Canary Islands? Canary island strawberry tree ☀️ Arbutus canariensis
A friend mentioned honey bee waggle dance to me recently and I had to tell them the bad news about that literature: numerous key papers appear to be fraud. So here is me sharing the bad news with you too. Extensive blog post by the hero sleuth, Laura Luebbert, and @lpachter.bsky.social:

After taking the course Statisticaö rethinking, it would be really interesting to know what Richard McElreath thinks about this paper about replications in experiments 🙏. @rmcelreath.bsky.social
I wrote (ranted) on experimental design as I was frustrated as an editor at how little guidance students were getting. I underestimated the interest in the issue: it has been downloaded 10,000+ times! Clearly it’s something we need to be talking about more. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....
A special moment was spotting one of the rarest plants in Sweden ”Gentiana purpurea”. One single population in the country with 5-20 individuals flowering per year. Would be great to know more about the pollination of the species - at this time a single individual flowered
