"Ignoring extreme heat and raging fires isn't just complacency. It's a dereliction of duty." Experts warn the climate crisis is already costing lives and urgent action from the Government is needed.
Renewable energy saves hard working people money during a cost of living crisis. Renewable energy creates more jobs. Renewable energy reduces stress on the NHS. Renewable energy saves on energy import costs. Renewable energy improves national security.

This became quite a daft watch in the end. Daft is ok, but it promised more.
The Rapture is pretty good, a solid page-turner of a series, and I’m especially enjoying everyone pretending it’s the hottest summer on record in what is quite clearly a mildish Welsh autumn.

I went out for lunchtime/afternoon drinks on Friday just gone. Un-used to four pints in the sun on *any* day, I followed it up with a lovely afternoon snooze. All well and good, but my body clock has been thrown so far out of whack, I still think it's Sunday! I bloody love being retired!
Credit to Badenoch, this was a totally unsurprising news alert until the final clause when my eyes popped out of my head like a cartoon character.
As @carbonbrief.org note, those figures are for all of Europe inc Russian Asia (74% of the landmass of "Europe" in this). Russia is having a relatively quiet season for fires. The rest of Europe is very much not –– it's second only to 2022 for severity so far
Ah and then here comes the execrable Matt Ridley with the worst possible take in the Speccie

This is very good on the new wave of denialism, although i'd argue that it's increasingly present not just on the right but across British politics
My column on how capital becomes a death cult. Faced with a choice between profit and human life, the radical right chooses profit. Then it tries to persuade us that mass death is what we want. It's the new phase of climate denial: accept your fate, earthlings. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Ah yes - I think it is the one I heard about in the programme! He caused me to fall out with someone once. This bloke released a photo of himself leaning on his nice mantelpiece with a cosy fire, and I quoted RST: "...save when he leans to gob in the fire" 😳 He didn't talk to me after that.

Shell’s Bahamas trading office made $6.2 billion in profit from 2018 to 2023 with just 37 staff and a 0% tax rate. Leaked data analysed by SOMO and Leiden University reveals that is 104 times more profit per employee than Shell’s average, achieved by routing standard crude oil through a tax haven.
@ppfideas.bsky.social Really enjoyed this one. There was a reference to consumerism & I’d like to have heard more about Veblen & his work on that to be fair. I think we do live in decadent times though & there are ‘fun’ bits for some.

Somewhat incredibly Badenoch has just been defending this man on the Today programme
Joshua Bonehill-Paine Self-styled "nationalist, fascist, theorist and supporter of white rights” who was jailed in 2015 for antisemitic online posts.... Selected as a Tory candidate.
Multiple convictions including assaulting a police officer and a three year prison sentence for racially aggravated harassment of an MP. And she's defending his appointment
