Mixed feelings here. It's good that he's putting the money into trans youth care that he said he was going to, but by intentionally separating it from everything else in this fashion it's so much easier to just cut and run if it gets threatened, which is almost certainly the intent.

Mamdani announces $15M for trans healthcare, includes launching a call/text resource support line. Notes city Law Dept filed an amicus brief against subpoenas for medical records. Hospitals suspended care to trans youth following a Trump EO. This seems to try working around that, doesn’t mention it

NEW YORK - Today, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced three major new initiatives to safeguard and expand access to gender-affirming care for youth and adults across New York City. The initiatives represent a proactive $15 million investment at a time of growing uncertainty and escalating attacks from the federal government.
To safeguard access to gender-affirming care, Mayor Mamdani's administration will:
• Establish a direct care access fund for providers of youth gender-affirming care to help ensure that New Yorkers can continue to access medically necessary care.
• Launch a call and text line connecting New Yorkers with care, services, information, resources and support related to gender-affirming care.
• Fund research to identify gaps in health care access and outcomes for transgender and gender non-conforming New Yorkers. As the federal government retreats from supporting this critical research, New York City will invest in better understanding and meeting the needs of LGBTQ+ community.
Earlier this month, the City's Law Department submitted an amicus brief supporting a legal challenge brought on behalf of transgender youth and young adults opposing federal grand jury subpoenas seeking the medical records of patients who have received gender-affirming care. On Wednesday, a federal judge granted the injunction, blocking the U.S. Department of Justice from using subpoenas to access sensitive medical records of transgender patients.
Mayor Mamdani has directed the Law Department to be ready to respond, including potentially litigate, threats to end gender-affirming care for youth and adults from the federal government.

I hate that "religious cishet but ostensibly progressive male does an about-face when they start getting called queer" is such a predictable response. I do not want to fall into the trap of stereotyping people based on stuff like this but...come on. Occasionally we need someone to break the cycle.

This hasn't been good. Not only did he buy into the right-wing narrative about medical care for trans kids, but he's trying to rewrite history when it comes to explaining why he voted against Texas' total ban on transition healthcare for minors. www.lgbtqnation.com/2026/06/repu...

After weeks of calling Democratic state Rep. and Senate candidate James Talarico transgender, gay, and feminine for supporting LGBTQ+ rights, he's now facing criticism from Republicans for walking back his support.
Republicans have spent weeks saying that Talarico is himself "transitioning to a woman," that he's "too low-T for Texas," and that he is lying about his relationship with his girlfriend, in part because of his past support for trans rights while a member of the Texas House of Representatives.
But Talarico is walking back some of that past support. "I oppose gender-reassignment surgeries for minors," he said on the Cogdell Law Uncensored podcast in late May when directly asked about whether he supports "sex surgery for minors."
"I think what's happening is the people that are in power know that there's a backlash to the extremism and the corruption in our government, and so they're gonna use a tried and true playbook to get out of this: distraction and division," he said. He did not explain his policy position on gender-affirming care any further and the host didn't ask any follow-up questions on the matter. It's not clear if he believes this opposition needs to be turned into a law - President Joe Biden, for example, was reportedly personally opposed to abortion but also campaigned against laws restricting abortion access - and if he believes it's a state or federal matter

I know a guy that tried to take estrogen and realized it wasn't for him. He's one of the kindest and most supportive guys I know. Would be interested to see a survey of "detransitioners" in that vein because I'm certain they're primarily in favor of trans rights but get talked over by these weirdos

Here is that "gender critical" artist who set out to create 100 portraits of "detransitioned women" FOUR YEARS AGO admitting that a number of her subjects have retransitioned in that time, as everyone who knows anything about trans people predicted they would. She should obviously remove them. 1/

Tweet by Sarah Vaci "Not true. Try reading their stories - some advocate for bodily autonomy and the right to transition, some have even retransitioned but wanted to remain in the series. It’s a very wide range of views."

every time I see a picture of a guy and a picture of a girl next to eachother my brain defaults to thinking it's a transition timeline

person who reads "et Al" as though there is some dude named Albert who is deeply involved in a ton of things such that nearly everything is connected to him

kinda wild repeatedly seeing people get all up in arms over posts significantly more tame than things the US government says on a regular basis I 'get' it but it looks utterly ridiculous to be policing others' language right now, we all have more important things to worry about

harry potter is the easiest case of being unable to separate the art from the artist that we have and obviously you should not be giving jk rowling your money or your eyeballs there is a vast quantity of entertainment out there where your money won’t go directly to hurting your trans friends
