🚨 Last month set a new record for the hottest average global sea surface temperature in the month of July! Record warmth is found in both the deeper ocean and at the surface. This isn't necessarily a surprise, but it will have consequences for around the world. Data in the graphic from NOAA ERRSTv6
Observation of the impacts of this year heat on the Sea Purslane at the West Hayling Lagoon. The part of the expanding patch above the spring tide line (in blue on the 2nd pic) has been frazzled over the last 6 weeks of heat & drought. The area beneath is fine. Very stark difference this year.

Earth is now warming faster than at any point in recorded geological history - around 10 times faster than the extreme warming event 56 million years ago and 20 times faster than at the end of the last ice age. We are almost certainly in a new extinction event.
Both the Danube & the Rhine are posting record low levels. This summer may be exceptional by current standards, but its increasingly expected. We need to start keeping hold of winter flood water to ensure water security. Wetlands have a large role to play in this. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
