Well this is a punch in the gut. Tony just helped us out by introducing us to Red Sorghum's Chinese BD publisher, who allowed his interview to be included on our disc. The man knew literally everything there was to know about Chinese cinema history. I'd hoped to meet him one day.

RIP Tony Rayns, one of the few English-language critics who genuinely knew what they were talking about (most of the time) when it came to East Asian cinema, especially Hong Kong's.

Today's random post- I *really* don't like the term "glizzy" for hot dog. It just sounds so disgusting to me and I have no idea where it came from. The phrase "glizzy gobbler" makes bile rise in the back of my throat.

My Japanese is still hot garbage, but I was able to take some licensors to a Oaxacan restaurant and explain a Spanish language menu over a Mariachi band, so I guess it’s improving. I mean, my brain fried halfway through the meal and I started resorting to pidgin English, but still…

Say what you will about AX and cons in general, but now that anime is mainstream, it is this weird utopia where the hottest, most charismatic people freely intermingle and commune with the most awkward people on the planet. Like the opposite of an 80s teen movie.

It is really interesting to see just how many companies, especially in tech, have completely forgotten the purpose they're supposed to serve, and their sole mission is "boost shareholder value". If you don't make something people want, you will fade away eventually.
