Obsessed Spreadsheeter (ist? izer?). Likes old anime dubs, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and that weird sticky goo that holds magazine inserts in place. Frequently wrong. www.v-i.dev
It was too funny how I'd started Otakon with several conversations about how Shirow's writing can make Ghost in the Shell kind of hard to follow moment-to-moment, and then later that weekend the new show's producer and writer both said they hardly understood the manga the first time they read it
For those keeping track, this is every anime featured on Justin Sevakis' Buried Treasure/Garbage or Pile of Shame ANN columns that has never been licensed or has not received a release within the last 10 years and is currently OOP. Fun info if you want to try and guess the next AnimEigo license
And the Friskies booth is larger than Yen Press, JNC, and BookWalker combined!
GUN NUN Or a GNUN, if you will
ARE YOU FUCKING JOKING
I’ve probably mentioned this before, but randomly thought I should bring it up again: If you’re into independent Japanese animation, the Nishikata Film Review is a wonderful site to read through. Real shame it’s not updated too often these days. www.nishikata-eiga.com

Turns out you can buy anime at anime conventions, even if it is getting harder every year. I counted all of 5 vendors in the Otakon main dealer hall selling anime, and one of those was only import LaserDiscs.
I’m all for looking back fondly on Funimation and Baccano, but Funimation Green was a mistake, and resulted in some of the crappiest DVD cases this side of a Simpsons Head season set. www.ebay.com/itm/25758711...
Remember when Funimation did the 'Funimation Green' initiative? Remember when Funimation had Baccano!? Remember when... Funimation?
This may be the best use of this plate design ever
Tired: “lol, Discotek keeps rescuing Bandai shows. Next thing they’re getting is Brain Powerd, rofl” Wired: “Discotek should license the Tomino masterpiece Brain Powerd.” Inspired: “Discotek should license the Kawamori masterpiece Earth Girl Arjuna.”
These are the exact issues of Monthly Asuka @mangamavericks.bsky.social is looking for for Sword of Paros. If you have a lead let them know!
@mangamavericks.bsky.social literally asked at their panel that if anyone happens to have issues of Monthly Asuka from 1986 & 1987 to let them know, as they'd like to get as many color pages for Sword of Paros as possible.
Very Orwellian slide at the anime con, what has the world come to
Fun fact about Infinite Ryvius: The OP’s singer, Mika Arisaka, is billingual, and recorded an alternate version of the OP in English. It was used in adverts for the show in Japan, and was an extra on the JP home video releases but as far as I know, never made it to the US youtu.be/yMMBnnNUbPk?...

Magical girl fans!!! Shojo fans generally!! Word at the AnimEigo panel was that the Looking for the Full Moon sales have been kind of weak, amd if that doesn't change they probably will have to backburner licensing magical girl titles. 40% off is a great time to help those numbers!!!
At the MediaOCD store find AnimEigo titles on sale for Otakon until August 2nd! We even have a movie you can get on disc for $1! mediaocd.com/brand/animei...
If for no other reason, Infinite Ryvius is worth checking out for the Vital Guarder, one of the more unique Sunrise giant robots. It’s “piloted” by an entire control center, and commands are sent over wires like some sort of futuristic marionette doll m.youtube.com/watch?v=zL_H...

Board the rescue ship for a Sunrise classic... Infinite Ryvius!
My pitch on Infinite Ryvius: Once per episode, a girl in a dinosaur suit shows up in the background. This is never explained and almost never remarked upon.

Seriously considering dropping a slide from “13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim” into my Keynote presentation for work on Monday. I swear this is actually on-topic.
I'm thrilled to finally be able to announce that I was approached by Discotek *last* Otakon to help with this release--a true, honest-to-goodness dream come true It's gonna be a good time, a SHOWTIME
Watch out for falling skyscrapers? Why? Because it's SHOWTIME! The Big O!
Outlanders! The space adventure OVA from the mind of Johji Manabe! This has an amazing new AstroRes powered upscale, polished subs, & both English dubs! Coming in 2026!
MediaOCD taking up the Right Stuf tradition of buckling under load for one day in the middle of the summer.
The store is going up and down a bit since everyone is swarming to get orders in. Keep trying, it'll load.

At the Ghost in the Shell panel. Not even the screenwriter and producer have seen Shirow in the flesh. Shirow communicates only by photographing hand written notes and sending jpegs to his editor, who relays info to the staff.
