Saw this review of The Iron Code anthology: "Lots of fun stories here, from high fantasy, to low fantasy, to gutter fantasy..." I'm 99% certain mine's the latter and I'll take it. In fact I think it's an awesome term for an as yet undiagnosed sub-genre. King of Gutter fantasy!

Here’s something to throw into all this ugly Odysseus discourse. The Odyssey and Iliad were originally part of a lost seven or eight book collection. One of them was about Memnon, king of what we now call Sudan. What might things be like in the classics and western culture generally had it survived?

I love funny bits in fantasy books that are only funny because you’re reading the book and are familiar with the world and its people. To me, that’s the Everest of worldbuilding.

Niche post, but I wasn’t keen on them announcing a remake of Possession (1981), but now Margaret Qualley has just had a fractious divorce it’s clear she’s a true method actor. Bring it on.

Experiencing lockdown again, this time in Warhammer Total War. Unbelievable plague sweeping through kingdoms and my armies haven’t moved in four years for fear of spread. My dark elves didn’t build any infrastructure for handling plague. This is a horrible way to discover I’m Boris Johnson.
