I don't think it's interesting that liberals are expected to hear right wing voices but conservatives aren't expected to hear liberal voices. Conservatives seek to destroy liberalism. Liberals seek to maintain a "nice" version of an essentially conservative system. They don't need you. You need them

BILBO: What's in my pocket? GOLLUM: oooo no fair hobbits how does smeagel know what's in - BILBO: [snapping a slap bracelet against his wrist and turning invisible] take it sleazy duderino

I've been playing rocket league lately and I've noticed that there are tons of people on there more skilled than I am, but who are terrible at it because they don't understand how to position themselves. Then they get mad at "tm8s" because they're losing. This is a post about journalists on Bluesky.

one tendency that comes out about period films is the insistence that XYZ moral thought would not have occurred to anyone in the ancient world. to be sure there are moral innovations and changes but the existence of thorough dissatisfaction with the present moral order is not a modern phenomenon

David Cronenberg regularly made films that looked like they were shot on a camcorder in a friend's backyard, but they had such powerful and inventive ideas that you wouldn't stop thinking about them for weeks. Christopher Nolan is, for better or for worse, the exact opposite of this.

It’s messed up that there are hundreds of songs about being proud to be an American but only one song about the impending arrival of a hotstepper and/or lyrical gangster

I suppose it's possible that all the people responding to this with "you should join your local committee!" live in places with thriving committees working under county/state leadership that isn't just a nest of vipers. I have some doubts.

There's nothing to "join" in the Democratic Party. It's a brand with products I spend my vote on once a year at the democracy store. Most people's experience of it is an endless stream of texts that read like scams, their reward for donating or signing a petition. No wonder DSA is growing
