Not sure we are seeing the same coverage. We were bombarded by narratives that Stevens was the only viable candidate based on one poll showing her beating Sayed & the Republican. The lesson is polling is absolute shit, it’s not useful for anything but story time.

But there was some polling that made it look like Stevens was down 15+ points that really bent coverage.
This is exactly what Susan Collins did for Betsy DeVos’s nomination. Same with Lisa Murkowski. The Republicans play their constituents at every turn & the media buys the narrative because they’re criminally inept and/or owned by conservatives.

I just wanna shout out the Capitol Hill library. My ballot came without a return envelope. KC elections told me to go to a library to fix it, library staff had no idea what the elections dept meant BUT they helped me figure it out & now my ballot is fine. Wish I could vote 2x for the library levy

Regulatory power is important bc— and let me emphasize this—markets aren’t rational. I know economists claim they are (I studied with many economists) but markets are manipulated & information asymmetry esp in the US is so pervasive there’s no way a market can function rationally. Hence regulation.
If you completely misunderstand the history of global trade, the functions of market economies & the price maximizing monopolistic behaviors of corporations in the face of a “deregulate everything!” political environment—then sure, you might come to this conclusion.
