Many users ask how GeoLibre compares to the desktop GIS, cloud GIS, and web-mapping tools like QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, Felt, and KeplerGL. I have added a new page to the documentation listing the detailed comparison among them. Check it out: geolibre.app/comparison

It's the first day back after a long weekend. Why not ease into work with some light weather nerdery:
"Unprecedented" gets thrown around a lot, but let's talk about our latest unprecedented summer with a big look back at July 2026 Weather for Edmonton. We've got lots of good stuff today... #yegwx #yeg edmontonweathernerdery.blogspot.com/2026/08/july...

36 hours left to catch June 2026 (1.7mm) or July 1901 (15.3mm) Although whether or not those happen, the 535.6mm that we've gotten for June+July has already set a ridiculous new record. #yegwx #yeg public.tableau.com/shared/QHZNJ...
At 9PM tonight's total has climbed to 4mm. So July is still 1.6mm short of catching our ridiculous June. #yegwx #yeg
Everyone knows the drill by now... Today's 21mm pushed Blatchford's July total up to 263.5mm. That's our 3rd biggest month on record. It's 5.6mm short of our record-breaking June, and 19.2mm shy of 1901's all-time record. #yegwx #yeg public.tableau.com/shared/53JHP...

Just once it would be nice to be able to go a day or two without needing to update this.
July 25th's storm pushed the July total up to 242.5mm, which is Blatchford's 3rd rainiest month on record. #yegwx #yeg The only months with more were 269.1mm last month, and 282.7mm in 1901. (and one more big storm could catch either of those) public.tableau.com/shared/XJ56W...
...I'd forgotten to mention this, but last week July became our 3rd rainiest month on record with 212.5mm (now 242.5mm). The only months with more were the 269.1mm last month, and July 1901's 282.7mm. public.tableau.com/shared/488JP...

#Yeg on that northern margin of the cold patch. Drenched in record setting amounts of rain in June and an associated explosion of mosquitoes.
See the alternating warm and cold patches in the Northern mid-latitudes? That's the imprint of a quasi-stationary Rossby wave (i.e. oscillations in the jet stream). It's rare to see it so clearly in a monthly-average temperature map.
