🟥 Apparently the writer version of those c0m1ss10n bots is people who leave copy paste replies asking "how far along is your manuscript" to, I assume, feed it to chatgpt for corrections I don’t have a "manuscript", sorry, it's called "episodic writing" and "ADHD".

Sam gulped and nodded. “How do I use it?”

“Point it away from yourself, pull trigger, bullet comes out.”

Sam couldn’t help but laugh. “You know what I mean.”

The dragoness grinned. “Couldn’t resist. The Welrod was designed specifically to be pressed against a target and fired from very close range, and if you do that it is practically silent. The bullet travels at subsonic speeds so if you fire it from a distance, fall-off will start very quickly and it is unlikely to pierce any significant amount of armour. The casing will cycle relatively quietly but I would recommend ensuring you pick them up and keep them to leave no evidence.”

The mouse internalised this as much as possible, looking at the weapon in her paws and feeling an involuntary tingle as the thrill of holding it shivered down her spine.. Did she really need this? Could she trust herself with it?

They don’t heal on their own, they have hard limits on durability, and they will break if you aren’t careful. There is nothing worse than literally breaking off two or three fingers because you decided punching through a wall was cooler than shouldering through a door.”
“You see, that’s good advice. I’m definitely the wall-punching type. I did ask them to make it as durable as possible, but… I guess there’s always gonna be a limit, huh.”
“Yep! Always a limit. Good thing to remember is that whatever tolerance they give you… that’s the breaking point, not the starting point.” She answered as she peeled a bit of the remaining synthetic hide from her parts. “Steel and ceramic are not as forgiving as flesh. You can break a knuckle or twist an ankle and keep fighting, but if you rip a fiber-bundle, or crush a servo? Yep, you’ll be down until you get to maintenance. ‘Cept if you are me. I know how to do field repairs.”

Might catch some flack for this but we are at the point where "Therian" "Otherkin" and "Alterhuman" are becoming interchangable and that's a good thing. In the forum era those things were used to redirect folk elsewhere because their weird didn't mesh with yours. Now it's just personal preference.

Therians gatekeeping based on "reality" will never not be funny to me because if you look at it from a pure "reality" perspective none of us are "really" wolves or dragons or Pokemon, we're all "really" just humans at the end of the day. Your approach to therianism can be invalidated just as easily.

And so went the new rhythm. The group favored the cover of trees as they pushed past the edge of their known world, weaving through back paths and forgotten highways. Distant shouts and pops would remind them to keep fire smoke low.
Ghost towns along the way yielded little but rotting buildings and debris.
Occasionally, one could locate an intact storage unit or warehouse with gear and tools, but very rarely did anything edible remain. Even a century ago, survivors all had to grow, hunt, and gather fresh food to survive.

Hendrix is the only one whose childhood isn't expanded on in my work, and it's because it was fairly normal. He grew up near Whitstable in Kent, and did a BA in Journalism Studies at the University of Sheffield, where he came out as trans. He ended up working for the Sentinel (in-universe paper).

Rith finally tries to resolve a recurring nightmare.

Drip.

She was here again.

She tried to hold the dream in her mind, to stop herself from waking up. The longer she could stay here, the less time she would have to deal with the void of numbness that awaited her outside of this place. It was terrifying here, but it was worse out there.

A strangled scream, and then… a familiar voice, crying.

“Oh Great Worm, save us!”

She looked around. She could almost tell which direction it was coming from… She floated in the darkness, shouting out in every direction, panic rising.

“Hello? Where are you?”

The voice came again. “Heed the call of your most dedicated follower, take my life if you must but save our family!”

“I don’t want your life! I don’t want any of your lives! Please, just tell me where you are!”

Blair looked up. Her eyes glistened.

“What am I, if I’m not a hunter? What am I, if I can’t resist her?”

“You’re a human. And a good person.”
