Ichneumonid wasps A few wasps I've seen in recent years. These parasitoid insects are incredibly diverse, yet poorly known with possibly as little as a quarter of living species even named. They're famous for making Charles Darwin doubt the existence of God simply by existing in nature.

A collection of seven parasitic ichneumonid wasps of different shapes and sizes, drawn with white on a black background. Most are of unknown (to me) species, though the large one in lower right corner is a sabre wasp (Rhyssa persuasoria), a parasite of large wood wasps and longhorn beetles.

Tiny bees of early spring! I'm slowly getting better at Tiny Bee ID & did a little rundown of the genera of bees you're likely to see. Dime, bumble, & honeybee for scale. granted, this species range is for March/April & it is now May so I'm running behind, but bit by bit, I'm building up resources!

Types of native spring bees of eastern north America - TO SCALE! In the background is a time, and faded out silhouettes of bumblebee and honeybee for scale Smallest to largest Ceratina - shiny, metallic, low to the ground, and a blue-ish color. Minimal visible hair Lasioglossum - shiny and metallic, silvery-gray with some hair, especially in bands on abdomen Osmia - ROTUND, round with a pollen belly. This one happens to be hairy and gray, but there's a wide variety out there Colletes - black bug with a fuzzy fur coat and abdominal banding. Heart-shaped face Andrena - black bug with a fuzzy fur coat and minimal abdominal banding. Square-rectangular face Nomada - earthtone tiny "wasp" sometimes REALLY tiny

The Art of #InverteFest - April 2026 is out! I contributed this sketchbook page. Mostly because I'm proud of the Oak Gall Wasp drawing.

A couple ink drawings of bugs in a sketchbook with yellow paper. On the left side is an Oak Gall Wasp, drawn on a post it note, but slightly exceeding the post it and onto the sketchbook page. The wasp is from Tribe Cynipini and has a bent wing. The right page has a front facing drawing of a Twice- stabbed Lady Beetle, Chilocoris stigma. Both drawings are colored with the same red-orange maker. The body of the wasp is colored in as well as the distinctive "stab" marks on the beetle.
