The new Nepenthes bag is coming soon! I spent so much time working with the manufacturer on the sample, and now I’m finally happy with it! It will be a perfect bag for our bug friends, and totally safe for them😉 I am expecting the whole batch to be done and available in September! 💚

I love finding old tree wounds, the leaking sap ferments into a yeasty mush that persists for years and is full of weird bugs. Here's a flat clown beetle, Hololepta sp, pulling a fly larva out of the muck. Western New York, last month.

it seems like a common reaction to learning that spongilla flies exist is learning that freshwater sponges exist. here's some shitty pics i took of one that came to a blacklight last night.

a small insect with wings held vertically tented above its abdomen. Climacia areolaris the wings are brown and cream colored, and have the expected lacewing veins (though reduced compared to most other families) this animal makes a beautiful cocoon

a really awesome orb weaver found by Catherine, in the genus Spilasma (contains only three species). The beautifuuly structured retreat can be closed by the spider when it is threatened!
