pixel artist, known mostly for drawing pretty girls. also the semi-secret identity of a (fairly boring) programmer | they/them | https://mastodon.art/@xvln | no commissions, no collabs (sorry!) | most importantly, no ai! MDNI, 18+ stuff here

was going through old chat logs and came across an imgur album containing some of my old (circa 2018) pixel art imgur.com/a/8gLNCg9 (cw: mild nsfw/gore) not gonna repost them (to avoid polluting my media tab with ancient stuff), but still neat. still fond of the sword girl and the witch

is there any way to avoid bsky mangling (pixel) art with lossy compression? it's pretty annoying that even if the input is smaller, it lossily recompresses it (i uploaded a crisp 19kb png and it turned it into a 54kb webp, adding plenty of compression artifacts in the process 🫠)

i notice my art is kind of creeping up in resolution. perhaps becoming less pixelart and more 'art that happens to be drawn pixel by pixel'. hmm.

Genuinely, this concern about AI is one of the reasons why I think having friction in video games is good and why it's increasingly important to have games that simply exist instead of catering to our expectations. Reposting this message from Kojima about "pre-digested" art:

And he said, "If everyone likes it, it means it's mainstream. It means it's conventional. It means it's already pre-digested for people to like it. And I don't want that. I want people to end up liking things they didn't like when they first encountered it, because that's where you really end up loving something."

“The Al is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you”

drawing something for pride month that involves rainbow colors and im havin to turn off the part of my brain that worries about using too many colors in a pixel art piece lol...

If you have nsfw set to "hide" I implore you to set it to "warn". You still won't see anything except for a blurred post Otherwise once they roll out account-wide adult content labeling a whole lot of people including me are going to disappear from your timelines, even our sfw text posts
