10^80 is not 100 sextillion (10^23). It’s not 100 sextillion cubed. It’s arguably 100 quinvigintillion (100•10^{3*<latinsh for 25>+3}) or 80-plex [1]. Dismayed by confidently wrong information being forced to the top of a once dependable search engine. [1]: The Book of Numbers, Conway & Guy 1996

“AI” gone bad, directly pulling from Wikipedia, making up a false equivalence, and pretending it’s backed by a link. Google falsely claims that 10^23 (100 sextillion) is 10^80.More bad information. The definition of a sextillion is presented as the definition for 100 sextillion.

plasticlist.com results dropped. While the number of samples per item is low and the variance and statistical uncertainty are high, endocrine disrupting phthalates seem present in our foods. Also learned that RX bars are wrapped in ExxonMobil’s UBW-ES, an oriented polypropylene (OPP) film. 🌯🧪

I must admit I've resisted the change in platform because of the mental tax in rebuilding my HPC follows & feeds from the "ex-bird." Finally able to invest the time in rebuilding and grateful for folks like @hpcprogrammer.bsky.social for helping bridge the gap. 😁 It was great catching up at #SC24. 💟

Visited the Frank Lloyd Wright Taliesin West property this afternoon, which included the drafting room where the design for the Guggenheim was conceived. Absolutely stunning use of light, space, and structure that fit perfectly into the desert hillside.

My default explanation for sudden changes in a time series is change in measurement. So glad to see another example, sent to me by a colleague who shares my cynicism. Short, clear explanation of Liquid Chromatography-Tandem Mass Spectrometry. Which is important to the story.

Btw the below is why I find mixed precision #HPC so interesting. There’s potentially *huge* performance upsides, but if you get it wrong, it’s *all* wrong.

I personally want code to run extremely quickly; it's why I love HPC/performance engineering. But code that runs fast while producing garbage is even worse than code that doesn't run at all. I think the goal *must* be to enable the science in an accessible, complaint way
