Had to do a site visit for work today. 2 trains including the metro and it was less than an hour door to door. Pre metro tunnel easily 90 minutes. For context my office is less than 10km from home but takes over an hour by 2 buses that don't sync. Hence I drive or cycle. Why does the Age hate us?

Parents and carers often tell us, smiling, that kids in their lives are dressed and ready for school early on #BikeBus day. It’s a community led way to help children develop their independence and confidence. Bike buses also help fight climate change, screen time, and build social connections. 🚲🚌
Truth is somewhat more nuanced, Yarra council set the tender details then didn't wish to negotiate either better responsibility, a improved deal or any on-road car parking space for corrals.

Quoted in The Age last night, after council voted to cancel share bikes. Streets Alive Yarra president Jeremy Lawrence suggested that if bike parking on local footpaths was the issue, on-street bike corrals could be added to every street in Yarra, “just as there’s a car park in every street”.
The truth is Yarra Council will not negotiate the E‑bike Share Scheme Tender, including a better deal for council or ebike/escooter corrals, on-road parking etc, in exchange for *any* car parking spots. It's short term vindictive politics. Meanwhile in NSW: www.nsw.gov.au/ministerial-...
