People need to get used to remembering that: -cognition ("thinking") -memory -emotions -sensation -consciousness are separable. Until recently this was all very hypothetical. But no longer. AIs definitely have some form of cognition, probably aren't conscious, definitely don't have feelings.

Yeah ok technically it's bad when the fascist militia is targeting the media with impunity but, on the other hand, if the various Nazi factions want to kick bloody lumps out of each other, I am not going to stop them. Knock yourselves out, lads. Literally.

I do not understand why women accept the advertising message that they look better when coated with makeup. I can understand people who have scars or something they feel they should conceal, but human skin is beautiful. It calls out to be touched, softly.

Ngl, I am increasingly cranky about what seems to be a complete lack of rigour, curiosity, depth of thought across many domains of public life in Britain today. What is going on with far right disorder raises really fundamental questions for the state and society, but nobody seems interested.

But really looking at "the government" Vs "the media" isn't right. In the UK there's more of a central clique of people who all went to the same schools and are all in the same group chats. It is a court, and they're all in it.

I'm less naive than Sean Carroll wrt to politics at least. He's a wee bit better at physics so I guess these things even out in the end
