Australia cannot wait like a sitting duck for the next Black Summer. We are among the world’s most fire-prone nations, and climate disasters already cost us $40 billion each year. We must cut emissions by accelerating renewables, storage and electrification, and ending reliance on coal, oil and gas.

Community Strong brings together independent voices who remain accountable to their communities, with the collaboration and infrastructure needed to deliver practical solutions. We keep our commitment to a free vote, putting our communities first on every decision, while working together.

A major win for small business after crossbench advocacy. The Govt will lift the small business CGT threshold from $2 million to $10 million, expanding access to existing concessions for around 2.7 million active small businesses.

Victim-survivors should never have to choose between poverty & safety. Family law can be confronting, costly and weaponised by perpetrators, while too many are left without legal aid, housing or support. We need a national royal commission into domestic and family violence.

Earlier this year, I moved an amendment calling for stronger safeguards where these extraordinary powers could be used on children. Australia can keep people safe while upholding human rights, proportionality and the rule of law.

Modelling from the NSW Net Zero Commission shows climate impacts are dragging on productivity, wages, jobs and food prices. NSW residents are already estimated to be around $20,000 a year worse off due to historical climate change, with costs set to rise further without stronger action.

The Prime Minister once warned that selling off Sydney Harbour’s public assets would be a “retrograde step” because “if we get it wrong once, it disappears forever.” I’m calling on the Government to protect this site for future generations, not carve it up for the highest bidder.

Here are this week’s bills scheduled for debate. I have concerns about the Tax Reform Bill - a large omnibus bill proposing significant changes across our tax system. While I support CGT reform for property, I am concerned by the Govt’s decision to extend those changes to shares & trusts.

Leaked docs show that BHP delayed renewables, slowed electrification & weakened their climate commitments. And BHP reportedly received $622m in fuel tax credits after paying less than $9m under the Safeguard Mechanism. This is greenwashing propped up by bad policy.

Today in QT, I asked the Treasurer what modelling the Govt has done on extending CGT changes beyond investment property & whether he will release it. You can watch the Treasurer’s full response on my website: zalisteggall.com.au/news

Violence against women and children is a national crisis. It deserves national leadership. The PM says his government is doing “everything”, yet frontline services remain under-resourced and femicide remains a national crisis.

This week in Parliament I’ll head into Budget lock-up, while also supporting 2 key bills: 📑the Survivors Law Bill, to help child sexual abuse survivors seek compensation 📑and the Combatting Illicit Tobacco Bill, to strengthen enforcement against the illegal tobacco trade. #auspol #ZaliInParli

The IEA’s latest report again shows Australia is significantly underreporting methane emissions from coal and gas - by up to 60%. We cannot meet our climate targets while ignoring methane. We urgently need accountability and action.

News that the PM may kill off plans to increase taxes on gas giants in next month’s Budget is not good enough. Australia should receive a fair return for its natural resources. Other countries, like Norway, have shown this can be done by using resource wealth to build long-term national prosperity.
