Last night, I blew a car tyre on a pothole at the bottom of my road. I reported it and by the time I headed out to work, it was fixed because it's a busy road. Does anyone know how these potholes things form? Seems like it must have happened almost instantly.
For the first time, someone asked my opinion/markup/math check on an AI generated spreadsheet. My answer: "No."
My father's Casio W-217HM-5AV watch strap broke. This is a common problem on Casios. The rubber degrades and becomes brittle. Dad just wants it like it was. The cheapest way to get an original strap is to buy a watch and swap it out. Ah well, the maid gets a new watch... with a third party strap.
After a month or so of my refusing, both my phone and TV are getting more and more eager for me to upgrade my operating systems. I wonder if it's got anything to do with once install I can no longer use my devices without consenting to let them scrape all my activity for AI and can never revert?

My personal favorite watch from the dozens we are auctioning is this This Rolex Datejust 36mm (ref. 116234) with a rare "tuxedo" dial. Somehow the dial softens the cliché of the iconic DJ, adds interest, and dresses the watch down. It feels casual, but still classy.
Somebody's Patek Philippe beater watch. The Calatrava Travel Time (ref. 4934J with Caliber 215 PS FUS 24H). It's a ladies' GMT. "Bae, you know how you are always traveling between Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Manila, Singapore and Perth? I picked out a GMT watch so we can go together! 💋"
Sigh... The steel Rolex Cosmograph Daytona (ref.116520) is more than I can afford to keep for myself.
Back to watches many of us can actually afford... Cartier. Except they're ladies watches. Cartier Tank Française Automatic (ref. 2303) will probably fetch a USD 2,000-2,500 and the Cartier Tank Divan (ref. 2599) a bit less. The 2303 isn't too dainty and the 2599 is a rare tank on its side.
Stone dial Rolexes are relatively rare. Last month the Sugilite (purple) dial 79173 sold for way more than I expected at USD7,500. So hopefully this Lapis Lazuli (blue) dial 6917 will do well at auction.
Let's start this month's Weird and Wonderful Watches with this Swatch Automatic Special Tresor Magique ref. SAZ101. It has an ETA 2840-P automatic calibre and the case is SOLID PLATINUM (Pt950). It cost USD1,618 at launch in 1993 and there were queues around the block. It has kept its value.

Chinese microbrands have gone through a quality revolution even since I started blogging about them on here not long ago. And in many ways they out-spec most Japanese watches at 2x the price. They still don't beat them in the subjective feeling that it's a real consumer product like this Seiko.

Seiko Prospex Street Series "Mini Tuna" Solar Diver ref.SNE533P1 in navy blue. Surprisingly wearable for a 46.2mm steel case. It cost me $420 at retail, but you can probably find it cheaper, if you can find it.
