Alex Pretti, the man killed by federal agents today in Minneapolis, appears to have been a registered nurse, an athlete, a son and a brother, with ties to Colorado and Wisconsin. Here is a photo he used for several accounts.

Sources identify man shot as Alex Jeffrey Pretti of south Minneapolis

The man fatally shot by federal officers in Minneapolis this morning has been identified as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
Pretti, 37, has an address listed in south Minneapolis.

At a news conference, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said the man who was shot was a 37-year-old white man with no serious criminal history and a record that showed some parking tickets. Law enforcement sources said Saturday their records show Pretti had no serious criminal history.

Just sent this email to the University of Minnesota's President, Rebecca Cunningham, to express disappointment and frustration at their milquetoast response to a violent, federal occupation.

Dear President Cunningham,

I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration at the University's response to the current federal occupation of Minnesota. We have witnessed repeated acts of violent lawlessness at the hands of ICE and CBP, in addition to structural threats such as politically motivated investigations and cancelled funding.

Countless citizens are bravely standing up in the face of depraved injustice. Neighbors are meeting, planning, and organizing to meet the needs of vulnerable populations here. Parents of school children are standing guard *to protect children from abduction*.

Meanwhile, I have not seen a single email from the Office of the President meaningfully address the present situation. For example, the most recent email simply gestures to the "weight we are carrying", without specifically mentioning what that refers to - that ICE has shot and killed a member of our community. That citizens are being violently detained. That legal status is being ignored. That our vulnerable neighbors are being deported without due process.
Now, more than ever, we need our institutions to stand strong with our community and to push back against the growing threat of fascism, both globally and here at home. Instead, the University has sent platitudes with vague allusions to safety and community. This is not solidarity.

The University must communicate publicly and explicitly about the Trump administration's threats to higher education, its disregard for the law, and its increasing violence. If not for the University community, then for the University's own survival. Businesses are closing, workers are striking, and the University has demonstrated a reprehensible lack of courage.

As a community, we need to know that you understand the gravity of the situation. We need to hear you to clearly lay out what is at stake and how you will help protect our most vulnerable. The faculty, students, staff, and all community members who make the University what it is are relying on you. Don't fail us.

Sincerely,

Andrew Decker
