As we kick off August, I'm now 10 months into my job hunt, and the numbers are grim. I've been tracking almost every application. I've got 20 years of experience and I've shipped on virtually every platform. 121 job applications. Only 6 even made it to a screening call. I'm tired :\

BlueSky has been very interesting for me compared to other social media platforms. My follower count is maybe 20% of what it was on Twitter, but my engagement is 10000x better. I get more eyes on what I post. More discussion. And it's largely quality too.

This might be one of the most unhinged job requirement bullet points I've seen. How are we still doing this in 2026? "Willingness to be on-call for live issue firefighting and to crunch around critical shipping periods to support major content launches."

While there are certainly valid criticisms you can level against The Odyssey as a film adaptation one thing I think a lot of those who are most frustrated seem to be missing: This is going to be the thing that sparks an interest in classical literature for a lot of people. They'll want to READ it.

I tell this story often, but I don't think here yet... Myst is what got me into making games. Myst was one of the very first games I became truly obsessed with. I had notebooks full of puzzle sketches, clues, combinations I'd tried, guesses at what things meant...

Over a year ago, we built a prototype for a new Myst Universe game meant for publisher eyes only. This project is NOT in active development, but we're proud of the work the team did, and wanted to share it with you all. Presenting: Project Anglerfish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvNGt02yZNc

I was once listed as a source on the Wikipedia page for Notepad (the windows app) because I wrote a blog about how if you wrote "this will break notepad" then saved the file and opened it back up again, because of a text encoding bug, the opened file would just be squares instead of letters.

Okay, my QUESTION OF THE DAY is… What is your weirdest actual accomplishment? Not the biggest necessarily…but the weirdest?

Ok, I'm about to start my Nth attempt to get into Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader. I keep bouncing off the game early on due to the sheer volume of numbers and words flooding the screen constantly. I just want to stomp xenos guys... I don't need to read War & Peace

Instead of yelling “fascist!” At ICE agents, we should change it up and shout “Tiny Penis!” while pointing at them and laughing. Nothing gets to fascists more than being mocked.

If I ever was able to start or run a studio, one of the key elements I'd bake into everyone's contract would be a very clear clause on profit sharing. Game does well, team should do well, not just execs. I'm so tired of teams taking the brunt of the work, and getting a sliver of the reward.

I think if a project is cancelled, everyone working on it should be immediately released from their NDAs for that work so they can showcase it on their portfolios, resumes, and talk about freely in interviews. I've got a project that was cancelled 3 years ago that I'd LOVE to talk about!

This as a problem of creative leadership, and if you have watched many GDC talks, or been a game developer, you will have seen this. Whenever a game ships in record time, the director is shown to make, and keep, decisions. Whenever it goes over time, you eventually hear of constant changes.
