Cleaning, updating, and prepping two @prusa3d.com MK3 printers for a couple young makers checking out the hobby for the first time. These don’t have all the bells and whistles of newer machines, but they’re reliable, maintainable, and (most importantly for our beginners) free :) #3dprinting
I haven’t purchased a new #3dprinter in years. My little farm of MK3s, MK4s, and the an XL has been too reliable to update. But Prusa finally got me with this announcement of a fully assembled CORE One L+ with 8 color INDX preinstalled. Now to wait for the delivery… youtu.be/guS0BpeI0aQ?...

I finally wrote up a CAD trick I keep reusing: roofs that print without any support. Instead of making the printer cross one wide gap, you stack hexagons, rotate every other one, and shrink them until the opening has closed itself. No more support scars. open.substack.com/pub/thecraft...
Stack, Rotate, Shrink: Surfaces That Print Without Support

BrailleRAP is an open source DIY Braille embosser. Derived from a 3d printer controller and a bunch of 3d printed parts, BrailleRAP can emboss Braille text in a lot of languages and even emboss vector graphics to build tangible documents like maps, board games, and art representation. #OHWC2026
Tonight on Zee and Zed, @zombiehedgehog.com and I welcome @davidtobin.bsky.social to talk about all things 3D Printing, including the latest legislation. Join us on www.twitch.tv/zombiehedgehog at 10:00pm Eastern!
Glad to see that @davidtobin.bsky.social and @joeltelling.bsky.social continue to bring attention to this. These bills are based on a fundamental misunderstanding of how 3D printers work. They won’t solve the ghost gun issue, waste time/money, & are impossible to implement. youtu.be/5ax9zW0w_gY?...

I don't like posting about politics on this account, but I dislike what's happening even more. Trump's threats are disqualifying whether or not they're "just a joke" or a strategic bluff. While there are few political tools available to limit the executive branch, it's well past time to use them.
Open source hardware is awesome. I had a user on Printables make a feature suggestion to add a list of screw angles instead of just opposing sides and I was able to add and test it fairly quickly.
Just hit publish on my latest blog post. It's the first of what will (hopefully) be many that cover some of my design processes and roadblocks. Check it out here: sunbeammakes.com/designing-a-...

I updated a version of the Planetary Egg that has more clearance for textures, so you can add your own texture using CNC Kitchen's STL texturizer. Or you can print one of the textured versions I made. STL's: than.gs/m/1530768 Texturizer: cnckitchen.github.io/stlTexturizer/

The Crafsman is possibly the most chill feel-good YouTube channel I watch. So you bet I was interested in his take on AI. youtu.be/CC7dmomiVuo?...

So much has changed since my last video. When I return, I plan to add a "No AI" disclosure. I can't control what YouTube does post-upload, but my own designs, thumbnails, videos, scripts, & captions are not produced by GenAI. To the extent I can verify, any background music I use will be the same.
I confess that, when I started the #RepRap Project, I didn't anticipate that it would be a significant technology in non-violent protest against fascism in the USA.
GOOD MORNING, FRIENDS! We have a whistle printer who is almost out of filament! If you've been waiting for your chance, one spool can turn into ~500 whistles!!! amzn.to/4afNzux

I started this shelf project about 6 months ago when I moved into my apartment. I developed a parametric dowel rod connector system to build it then I had the hardest time motivating myself to finish it. I had to problem solve since I built it with basic tools and my Mk4/Core One printing 6+kg PETG

I saw we're doing 2016 throwbacks. On this day 10 years ago, I was making the first prints on a Mendel 90 we built for the "How to build a RepRap 3D printer" class I taught at the Dallas Makerspace. I would have never guessed I'd be making a living working on 3D printers founded by RepRap today.
Not only a perfect denouement, it was the end of an era. Thirty years ago today, this strip was published.

If the first 3 seconds of a video has a voice-over in generic 3rd person past tense ("The man placed a $20 bill in his shoe"), that video is an instant down vote and skip. One might think the YouTube algorithm would learn I treat AI slop the same way a cat handles tape clinging to its back paw.
