Back in the golden age of webcomics, banner ads were how you learned about more webcomics, plus other nerd-adjacent stuff. They weren't just "not bad"; they were part of the experience.
Nash@radiodeadair.com · 2w agoI feel like people have forgotten that ad blockers weren't popular because people just wanted to get something for free, it's because we can't trust ads not to fuck up our computers. If we still just had quiet simple banner ads or sideboard ads, ad blockers wouldn't have gotten as much traction.
It is hard to overstate how pissed off and weird even some of the mildest of dudes will get when they're upstaged by someone they perceive as female/more feminine than them.
