It's always heartbreaking when a lit mag goes away, but it's also a reminder about how much human care and effort goes into making a space for art. Transience doesn't make something less beautiful.

Hey all, @beansbaker5.bsky.social here. After much deliberation, and many missed deadlines, we've decided to end submissions to JAKE indefinitely on Feb. 15th (two weeks from today). All open submissions will receive a response, and all announced/scheduled work will release, but we're winding down.

museums are a good place to check out what other people's IG algorithms look like while they stand right in front of the stuff i want to see.

i want to so badly to experience a christmas filled with magic! reverence! and child-like wonder! but every year, without fail, my extended family decides to become embroiled in a jolly holiday fight or share things like, "christmas makes me think of everyone who has died." where is krampus.

anyway go see One Battle After Another in a movie theater, I know we said this about Oppenheimer but I mean it for real with this one, there are cinematographic and audio mixing things that are essential to the experience and you won't get it at home

I'll add that while there's nothing wrong with comfort art, there's absolutely something wrong if you're willing to engage ONLY with comfort art. You should be running into art that perplexes you or gets under your skin or makes you ask questions or that you dislike without calling for its removal.
