I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

Last day to comment on this and make your voice heard, please defend Chaco canyon which is sacred to Pueblo, Navajo, and Hopi peoples and stands at risk of over 300,000 acres losing protections so it can be pillaged for gas and oil.

BLM is revoking protections on Chaco Canyon. If you don't like national parks giving sacred lands to oil+gas companies, you have until July 29th to submit public comments. act.foodandwaterwatch.org/page/96315/a...

WOW, new finds from the Ice Age! Two absolutely stunning Ice Age figurines from the Swabian Jura were found, dating back around 40,000 years. The tiny carvings, about the size of a thumbnail, depict two birds, rendered with remarkable attention to detail. Snow grouse, buzzard, or...🧵1/2

At a recent archaeology conference I was shocked to see AI-generated reconstructions of Māori sites—these are racist tools trained on old northern -hemisphere assumptions. Maybe work with an artist, or learn to draw? theconversation.com/historical-i...

Historical images made with AI recycle colonial stereotypes and bias – new research

Generative AI is known to mirror sexist and racist stereotypes, but it also carries a colonial bias that is reinforcing outdated ideas about the past.

Imagine being angry because you're seeing people of Zambian or Kenyan ancestry, being present in a fictional tale taking place on the Mediterranean. But not Massachusetts or Brooklyn native actors of Anglo-Celtic ancestry. In the MEDITERRANEAN.

I won't even entertain any of the supposed "controversy" surrounding Nolan's Odyssey casting, they're lying racists who hate black people and there's nothing else to it.

Academia is classic game and metagame. The ‘game’ is acquiring skills and knowle by dge so you can produce a paper , the metagame is ‘producing a paper’ and that’s all you’re marked on, hence cheating and shortcutting that means you win the metagame while opting out of the game.

The thing is, 95% bullshitting a paper is actually doing most of the important skills development work of writing a paper . "The point of writing a paper is to have a good final product" is something believed by people who paid others to write their papers but somehow they run universities now

Saying we should all go back to physical media I think misses the point. I actually *like* buying games and movies digitally for a bunch of reasons. What we need is better consumer protections so the things we do buy digitally are actually owned and companies cant delete/revoke access!
