Seven years ago, on September 15, 2019, after about a six-week hiatus during the summer, I wrote a Facebook post that started:

It’s all fine. There’s no need to worry. We are at level 1 No Boats says. Supply chains mean nothing here in Magical Unicorn Land. 🤣🤣🤣
It is absolutely no accident all of the most polluting fossil-fuelled bitcoin bros have hopped a tiny step over to powering generative AI www.datacenterdynamics.com/en/news/gree... ecoservantsproject.org/crypto-betra...
And here we are in NZ at the end of a very long & shaky supply chain...
Panama canal traffic to be cut again as drought from El Niño worsens
Yeegods. This is an ugly Amendment Paper from minister — abolishing non-elected members from committees / rolling back SC changes re Crs access to info — and a disgrace for constitutional change to be dropped in without being scrutinised by SC etc. www.legislation.govt.nz/amendment-pa...

Decades of building industry research at risk
The future of our world-respected building research association is looking shaky with a government move to cut the dedicated levy that funds it.

Venus is 2.8 times hotter than Mercury, despite Mercury being closer to the Sun. Why? Venus' atmosphere is primarily CO2, which traps heat. So what happens when we add CO2 to our atmosphere? It traps heat. This shouldn't be that difficult to understand.
Just to keep the record straight. Remember this when Willis tries to tell you about Labour's "recklessness" and how they saddled generations with debt. note: they didn't, but they did borrow to save lives and jobs and keep businesses alive in a pandemic, not to fund their tax cuts. #nzpol
in an ideal world Luxon & Willis & Upston would take notice.
I'm going to keep re-posting this and adding #nzpol tags... this government is obscene and shameful...
Our broken public health system is burning through skilled experienced staff. It’s an unfolding disaster, laid out here in black and white. www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/3610...
It's great news that Seymour has jumped the shark ahead of the.leaders debates. First question for all other party leaders: Will you support a coalition agreement that includes scrapping Waitangi? And for National -.why should kiwis trust you on this given what you agreed to last time? #nzpol
ACT announces plan to end Waitangi Tribunal
Under the policy, all remaining historical Treaty claims will be completed, while the Waitangi Tribunal’s contemporary jurisdiction will end.

The Electoral Commission have now launched Access 2026: Accessibility Action Plan for the 2026 General Election to help everyone get ready for the upcoming election. You can read the Access 2026 #EasyRead document and other accessible formats at: elections.nz/about/about-...
For those in the back: The total amount the New Zealand government has spent on all historical Waitangi Tribunal settlements over the last 30+ years is less than the cost of a single year of the 2024 tax cuts for Landlords.

Sickening.
*Ansell said on camera he hopes people across NZ will do exactly the same thing*. 120+ Facebook comments confirm the message landed. Both MPs were targeted with language no male candidate on that stage received. None of this is surprising (for me). Signs are it will only get worse, at pace. #nzpol
Studied Ansell's livestream. Targeting of MPs Paul, & Verrall was coordinated. Anti-vaxxer Barry Young on stage levelling accusations of mass murder, an associate heckling on cue, Ansell narrating for online redistribution. This wasn't just heckling, but a production designed for viral replication.
Went to this as Tam’s campaign manager. Ended up having to be part of an escort for Ayesha. You expect heckles but not harassment at these things. Just yuck for everyone involved.
Wild to me that none of the NZ political parties can get their act together enough to say, simply, "if elected, we will increase science funding by a factor of 2-5x" #nzpol
The Science Media Centre sent some basic questions on science policy to political parties. From the governing coalition, National didn't bother replying, Act says it has a policy coming and NZ First's response is reasonably (surprisingly) coherent. www.sciencemediacentre.co.nz/2026/09/09/2...
Alright, here goes. I don't know how long this will be lol I’ll say this upfront: I think this is a big step forward for the AI policy debate in Aotearoa. I mean, there are some genuinely good commitments here. But there are also some questions I really want answered.
We now have a group of people with deranged, obsessive beliefs and a willingness for violence. Egged on by John Ansell, who is now encouraging "more and more people around the country" to do "exactly the same thing". www.thepost.co.nz/politics/361...

"In the US, the FBI has recognised sovereign citizens as a domestic terror threat for 15 years. The NSW police have done the same for about a decade, & here, a 2021 report from the police and intelligence community said that SC present a 'realistically possibility' of committing extremist violence."
