Any minute now, that track will be right on the horizon, we just need to apply more cuts, this time it will work #NZPol
National backs its policies as unemployment rises to 11-year high
'For Hickey, there is a deeper structural challenge. “You’ve got an economy which just doesn’t know how to operate without house prices rising”.' #NzPol
As unemployment hits 11-year high, how does it look under the hood?
Bernard Hickey breaks down the numbers released today.

Nonsense. RBNZ estimated in May that the oil price shock would lead to higher unemployment for longer (yellow line) but today's data was worse than expected (again!) The trouble is the reckonomists believe their own recovery hype.

BP announced more bumper profits. Oxfam's latest analysis finds that emissions from just five fossil fuel corporations were enough to contribute to around 1 in 4 heatwaves between 2000 and 2023. It’s time to #MakeRichPollutersPay! www.oxfam.org/en/press-rel...
I feel for whoever it is who forgot to edit one element of this RNZ story and made me spill my tea.
Unemployment at its highest level for 11 years, did I see? And THAT INCLUDES THE COVID AND LOCKDOWN TIMES. Thanks to the Ardern government that protected jobs and businesses at the time.
Desperate stuff to make Key feels he has to chip in. Damning for Luxon as it makes him look extremely weak needing a rescue.
Hello NZ govt 👋, maybe this is a better approach than building more prisons & punishing beneficiaries? Hard to argue with the numbers #nzpol
Wtf is this “remigration” Newspeak nonsense. At least have the strength of your convictions to call it what it is - deportation based on racism.
Xu-Nan's question pointing out that Peters had used MFAT comms to stand by his statements outside the House deserved a better hearing than it got from Brownlee, who then fluffed around and failed to make Peters answer a valid question directed to him as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Winston Peters relentlessly dodged answering Lawrence Xu-Nan's very precise questions inviting him to stand by his racist outburst in the House last week. What a snivelling coward. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Well now I’m confused. If a tank comes rolling past will it mean there’s an invasion or just Luxon on his way to a fundraiser?

Lol. Luxon doesn’t have a role, he is across nothing but his entitlements. He’s deposited in meetings with the scripts written for him where he glad hands everyone he meets. No surprise Key continues to support his choice for PM. As if he’d admit his choice is useless, that’d take humility. #nzpol
📢 The former Prime Minister said NZDF planes are practical given the role's busy nature.

At some point we — all of us — have to have a serious conversation about priorities. We can't just keep squeezing corporate profits out of everything and insisting everyone just make do somehow.
Older Kiwis choosing between 'starving or heating' as price increases bite
Not for *government duties* for his role as leader of the National Party for a party *fundraiser* for the *election* Surely this is outside the bounds of what the Air Force should be used for?? Seems like an enormous breach of his access to public assets! www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
If you are disheartened by the first image, then look at the second image and then tell your mates to enroll to vote and then bully them into voting for greens ✌🏽
A vote for National, NZFirst, or ACT is a vote to keep older kiwis in poverty, and to make their poverty worse. This coalition government has actively passed policies that have made things tougher for everyone who isn't in the wealthy donor class. It will only get worse if they are voted back in.
