Every AI article seems to include a sentence like: "The popularity of AI is soaring, with 2.5 billion people using [feature they can't turn off] monthly."
The difference between how techgarchs talk about AI (godlike singularity bringing post-scarcity utopia or science-fiction apocalypse) and what it turned out to be (annoying, mediocre, inescapable, making life steadily worse) exactly parallels how they think of themselves and how they actually are.
