We need to arrive at the ultimate food singularity: the Korean Lebanese Tex-Mex consumable

But if you also say -which may be correct-that it’s a danger to the rights of mentally ill people generally to force people into treatment, then you have to be able to charge people with crimes for antisocial behavior of some kind. Otherwise, people who aren’t big, tough & street smart pay the price
What We Do in the Shadows gets it right tho
One detail Nolan got wrong in The Odyssey is a key detail that EVERY SINGLE ADAPTATION of the Odyssey has gotten wrong for centuries In ancient Greece, the sirens were NOT voluptuous mermaids. They were birds with human heads A short thread of sirens in art 1/5
In the 90s and 00s, churches invested millions in youth group, creating a parallel universe for christian teenagers to grow up in and, eventually, change the world. That was the plan anyway. What happened? My first cover story for @sojo.net.
man has lost that sense of the full awfulness of the sea which aboriginally belongs to it
again saying the political response of local police depts probably worth following given Trump's efforts to federalize policing

Make your pitch for which should have been Sufjan’s next state album
This guy likely broke his 2 year old's collar bone (with him hitting her—the exam said the injury looked hand-like); him losing this race would be the most gracious thing that could happen to him and certainly not the most severe thing that should happen.

One reason i think everyone should take an archaeology class is to internalise with tangible examples that there is no pure, natural past utopia and that antibiotics and vaccines are what stand between us and a 50% child mortality rate and scores of women dying needlessly during pregn and birth
Leeds is now the subject of a major inquiry into maternity. I previously reported on its decade long pursuit of 'normal birth' ideology that saw it have the lowest number of caesareans while stillbirths and baby deaths soared to the worst nationally www.thetimes.com/article/f3af...
The REAL question is when are we getting the film adaptation of the Bacchae and who should make it
But the real problem with Emily's review is that it shanks Nolan. In a very personal way. It doesn't just slam his Odyssey, it repeatedly insults his body of award winning film making And for no real reason. Nolan is a strong proponent of the arts. He's getting people interested in Classics /4
Why did I just watch a video of a british man put Tabasco sauce in is eye
Y'all, finishing the codebook, blind coding, etc for this study is like approaching lightspeed. The closer I get, the slower everything goes.
I have not done "the gaming" in a long time: what would be a good computer game to get into
It's impossible to exonerate the internet, and social media in particular here. It allowed for the efficient networking and ratcheting-up of our worst impulses at unbelievable speed and scale. In-group/out-group dynamics are as old as the hills, but social media is a particle accelerator for them.
More to the point, this is happening in *non-white* countries as well: Japan, Turkey, and India have huge far-right nativist blocs. So it's not merely white supremacy or nostalgia for the days when the West ruled. Nor is it happening purely in developed post-material countries.
We should be able to have a future of "can" that is not the circumlocution "will be able to"

the lawyers kissing thing has me thinking about how we're walking into a decentralized panopticon that everyone hates in aggregate but keeps growing and growing because we all love our individual little pieces of it. grim.
