Care co-ops should help shape the National Care Service. Andrew Pakes MP put that idea to Care Minister Alison McGovern MP, who confirmed co-operative values are part of the Government’s thinking, empowering people and ensuring their voices are heard.

We took on the gambling industry. And we won! Years of campaigning. Communities refusing to give up. Now we've earned greater powers to decide whether new gambling venues can open in our neighbourhoods. A huge victory for our communities. Read my article in The Voice.

It’s not a silver bullet but bringing more empty homes back into use can help solve the housing crisis. Today, we’re announcing strengthened powers for councils to take control of long-term empty homes and use them to house families in need.

Having a strong pan-London approach for freight consolidation is crucial to managing a world where personal car use falls but congestion remains high. Also speeding up lane rental approvals which are taking way too long. Both would significantly help with bus speeds alongside bus priority measures.

Bravo @theguardian.com for this! Tragic to see decline in ridership @sebdance.bsky.social - we live in subscription culture - offer Londoners cheaper bus pass on direct debit - more bus gates to give priority - make 24hr bus lanes actually 24hr - remove parking! www.theguardian.com/uk-news/ng-i...

As expected the new Conservative administration in Westminster announcing its plans to flip homes in the Council's pipeline from social housing to intermediate. Also the start of their campaign to try to persuade GLA to lift the household income cap from 75k www.westminster.gov.uk/news/westmin...

Delighted our Social Housing Bill passed its Second Reading this week. At its heart are radical reforms to the Right to Buy to protect precious social rented homes and incentivise the building of more of them. The Bill also gives greater protections to tenants who are victims of domestic abuse.

NEW - Ed Miliband announces today - An import ban on goods from illegal settlements in the occupied territories. A comprehensive sanctions regime against providing services such as construction or financing for Israeli settlements. 1/2

Hugely important steps by Ed Miliband on sanctions on illegal settlements in the West Bank. But it is also crucial that this isn't just Britain acting alone but working together to with a broad coalition of likeminded countries to help maximise possible leverage www.gov.uk/government/n...

Community spaces and organisations are vital to building community cohesion, as evidenced by the great community hubs we were able to open in Westminster. They bring people together from all walks of life, something that is so vital in these fraught times www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

It’s been a busy few days on the doors in Holborn and St Pancras. A great team of campaigners from Camden and across London are already hard at work to ensure Labour holds the seat with a hopeful, positive but pragmatic campaign that shows the change we are making locally and nationally.

Out speaking to residents in hugely diverse Somers Town this morning. Not a place receptive to this racist division from Restore (as many residents commented)

Finally found this old photo from my first event as a local councillor (16 years ago) celebrating the partnership between Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and the Westbourne Children's Centre, helping give books to young kids in my ward. The reach of Dolly's philanthropy was huge and appreciated

A sitting Conservative MP using the word Yookay. Genuinely astonishing to me that visibly there is no warning sign, at all, will be heeded by loads of people at Westminster with a *direct stake* in this type of politics failing.

Important test for @citywestminster.bsky.social ‘s new administration. Will they stand up to their national front bench and call out this attack on our residents, are they trying to keep their head down or do they agree with it? Conservatives trying to divide our local communities.

Very depressing that this highly misleading statistic is now being promoted by Conservative Shadow Home Secretary. Philp contrasts “foreign born” with “British citizens” but a lot of the people in the “foreign born” group ARE British citizens.

It’s fantastic news that London will receive £168m of additional funding to support people off the streets - 38% of the national total. We’re determined to support the PM’s drive to ensure everyone has a safe place to sleep, working with London Councils and charities. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
