Today I did a panel at Star Trek Las Vegas about Trek typography, then met the Imagineer who does all the Star Wars and Marvel type design at Disneyland. That’s a pretty good Thursday, if you’re me. #stlv
obsessed with the font on IKEA's clam chowder packaging. this is what's in the freezer on the Nostromo
9-YEAR OLD ME: No I don’t know how to play guitar MY AUNT’S BOYFRIEND: It’s easy—see, each note has its own personality. For instance, C is a jolly fat man. Me: what Boyfriend: And D is like a scheming widow Me: what B: E is a traveling magician… Me: what B: Now F, he’s a troubled mayor Me: what
I make mashups now! This one's pretty good! Here's "Thank You For Paying My Rent", by Dido vs Pet Shop Boys.
Whenever I hear "Thank You" by Dido, I hear it in my head to the tune of "Rent" by Pet Shop Boys. Now you can too! www.patreon.com/posts/thank-...

Visited my niece and nephew; discovered I’m in the 2026 Guinness Book of World Records 😮
1. “Wait, say that again” idea saves the day 2. Big, tough guy is a softie at heart 3. The dog can talk now!
My top 3 can't-miss movie cliches: 1. Villain is killed whilst monologuing 2. Crusty, sour older relative gifts super-meaningful heirloom to young protagonist 3. Dog to the rescue!
This is VERY SILLY and also VERY FUNNY. "I Will Strangle A Horse", by @brainmage.bsky.social. Don't say I didn't warn you.
BEHOLD! My first ever choose-your-own-adventure game! "i will strangle a horse" - over seven and a half thousand words of absolute nonsense, as you help Martin Jenkins on his first day at The Farm. brainmage.itch.io/i-will-stran... Totally free to play! I mean, you can pay, but you can also not!

In the new Wallace and Gromit movie if you pause the movie at just the right time you can see Wallace’s bum
While I’m recommending things from @gralefrit.bsky.social: his book, “Be Funny Or Die”, is *wonderful*. If you’ve ever wondered how and why comedy works, this is the book for you. www.gralefrit.co.uk/books.html
This is a fantastic article from Joel Morris about storytelling. And AGATHA CHRISTIE *DOESN’T KNOW WHO DID IT* 😮
I've written at a bit more length about The Traitors, Agatha Christie, and 'The Kierkegaard Edit'. How story works best back-to-front. joelmorris.substack.com/p/the-traito...
Is the voice instruction “THROW YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR LIKE YOU JUST DON’T CARE”?
Posit: Harry and Marv are killed by Kevin’s very first attack. The rest of the movie (and sequel) is their own eternal purgatory, constantly bested by Kevin as a penance for their sins.
This just looks like a spectacularly beautiful publication by the amazing people at @letterformarchive.org; check out their other specimen booklets on sale, too! "Type by Aldo Novarese: Collected Specimen Booklets" (2024; #bookhistory #skystorians #history) letterformarchive.org/shop/type-by...
Belatedly sharing scans from typesetinthefuture.com/book, #4: An ad from "Vogue" magazine, Nov 1966, for "The Watch Of The Future", designed by Hamilton Watches for "2001: A Space Odyssey". The watch is worn in the movie by a pilot on Dr Floyd's flight to the Clavius moon base.
Belated scans from typesetinthefuture.com/book, #3: An ad from “Seventeen” Magazine, August 1968, for a selection of jewelry inspired by "2001: A Space Odyssey". The selection includes a rectangular silver necklace dubbed, simply, "The Monolith".
From a commercial for Mid Pacific Air that I worked on in 1985, shortly before I was hired on Star Trek. I designed the control panels and made the animated (fake) computer readout using a model airplane onto which I'd applied "vector" lines using graphic tape. Prod co: Ostrander, Patrico, & Blu.
Scans from typesetinthefuture.com/book, #2: An ad from “Seventeen” Magazine, August 1968. "Earthly beauty. A total concept in leather as exciting as the beyond… inspired by the imagination and beauty of “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Tomorrow’s look today, crafted for you by the inimitable John Romain.”
To celebrate having a decent place on the Internet to post things again, I'm belatedly sharing a bunch of research scans from typesetinthefuture.com/book 👍 Scan #1: a clothing ad for "out of this world knits… inspired by 2001: a space odyssey", from the August 1968 edition of Seventeen Magazine.

Coralie Fargeat’s “The Substance” is quite the trip; think “Barbie Carrie Shining The Fly Thing”. Recommended if you’re okay with body horror and incredible female lead performances. Also: let’s normalize crediting type designers in movie closing titles 👍
