Brilliant letter from Stuart Thompson to Jeremy Clarkson about his comments that benefit claimants should write weekly thank you letters to tax payers detailing how they spend their benefits each week.

The Boeing Integrated Manned Interplanetary Spacecraft (IMIS) was a 1968 design for a Mars mission. Boeing estimated that this design could launch its first mission in 1985. It would use five NERVA rocket stages, each fired and discarded throughout the 460 day flight.

IMIS, a long rocket-like spaceship

The Apollo Applications Program put together projects that reused the Apollo lunar mission hardware. One flown mission was the Skylab space station. An interesting un-flown concept was a Skylab variant using flexible roll-out solar panels.

A Skylab-like space station floating over the Earth with an array of six solar panels coming out from the top.

“Journos moved from 'it's either Miliband or Mahmood' [as Chancellor] to treating her as a confirmed appointment. Turns out, as I said last week, they were throwing darts at a dartboard. The BBC did whole segments on the premise that she was such a shoo-in, we needed to guess her economic strategy.”

Lunar View, after Lucien Rudaux. The original lighting made the central peak pitch black, as it was completely backlit, so I moved the Sun to one side. The Earth is unrealistically large. Terrain in #Gaea, everything else in #Lightwave3d

Lucien Rudaux art, showing Earth and Sun above a lunar crater peak.My take on the scene, lit more from the side, with a central oversized Earth.
