Kīlauea volcano is erupting (again) within Halemaʻumaʻu and the summit caldera! “Webcam imagery shows a line of fissures erupting lava fountains feeding lava flows at the base of Halemaʻumaʻu within the summit caldera. The activity is confined to the summit caldera.” 🧪⚒️🌋 www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/ki...
Last day the COMET team is in Washington for #AGU2024! Here's the COMET schedule for today: #WashingtonDC #volcanoes #earthquakes #academia #research #schedule
For the final day of #AGU24, we still have plenty of 🌋content up and down the convention center & online! You can still make the oral presentations in "Understanding Volcanic and Volcanotectonic Processes IV" in room 207A if you head there right now! (8:30-10:00)
Goodbye @agu.org poster hall. I won’t miss your vast, hot, stuffy, noisy, overwhelming, hard to get a cup of tea in, sore feet craziness! I will miss the feeling of pride seeing the rows of GeoHealth posters though! And bumping into volcanology friends! @agugeohealth.bsky.social @aguvgp.bsky.social
How did S inventory evolve in the lunar mantle? - Tomorrow (Friday) morning Board 3015 at #AGU24, I'll present a new model designed for lunar fO2, that can calculate the S solubility of silicate melts in equilibrium with sulfides of different metal/sulfur, and its application to the lunar mantle.
It's another busy day for #AGUVGP in DC! Right now, Room 207A is hosting "Technologies for Forecasting Volcanic Hazards" in Room 207A. After a coffee break at 10, they will be back at it until lunch time! Come for the latest in exciting advances to monitor 🌋
⭐ Happy Day 1 of #AGU24 ⭐ Today is packed with exciting 🌋 talks and posters! We'll be advertising the #AGUVGP day-by-day schedule here and on our other social channels. We have three oral presentation sessions this morning, starting with: agu.confex.com/agu/agu24/me...
🌋🧪 #ScienceAdventCalendar Day 6 (yes, I've already fallen behind...) Volcanoes produce a LOT of gas, but still only ~1% of the CO2 amount produced by human activity. Even the biggest modern eruptions come nowhere near close! Handy article about volcanoes and climate: www.usgs.gov/programs/VHP...
Students: Looking for an excellent field course in planetary geology and volcanology? Need field course credits in an accessible format? If yes to either or both, join us this summer for GeoSPACE, lead by myself and some fantastic colleagues!
