I'm far from the only person pointing this out, but: my good bitch, my taxes *already* subsidize shit I will never use. At least this way NYC residents know it's going to something GOOD and not, say, drones or bombs or some shit.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
I’m gonna say virtually all authors need to get serious about textiles. Who is weaving them? Out of what? Who’s turning them into clothes and how much does it cost and do you have any idea how HARD all of that was before modern mills
To write in the classic high fantasy mould, you need not be hung up on food specifically, but there must be SOME very mundane thing you're sincerely interested in and prepared to describe in excruciating detail every time it comes up. Clothing. Furniture. Architecture. It doesn't work without it.
"I don't understand why you, a fantasy writer, don't appreciate the value of making bargains with the fae."
Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude
I have, with my own eyes, watched my tax dollars in the form of missiles as they hit buildings inhabited by civilians. I'd much prefer subsidizing a grocery story I don't use.
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.
Bluesky is a "liberal bubble" because fascist chuds can't get traction without algorithmic assistance and because people here trained themselves to block "debate me" trybois the instant they roll up
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."

It’s hard to explain but tv was better when you couldn’t watch the show you wanted whenever you wanted to watch it and most of the shows were worse and the TVs were worse and the entire experience was worse, that’s when it was better
Well after an ambulance ride, an ER trip, and a medication overhaul, I am fully overwhelmed with medical bills. It's my birthday month so I'm asking for help to even make a dent in all of this. Anything helps. T-minus 18 days until birthday. ko-fi.com/tinychaosmou...

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
Motherfucker, you're saying that like it's a bad thing. Let it die. Slowly, and in pain.
AI boom could falter without wider adoption, Microsoft chief Satya Nadella warns
So my cricket newsletter has access to Beehiiv's ad network, which pays per click from email subscribers. Half of my ad offers are from Kalshi and pay 25% more than anyone else. I never take them for a number of reasons, but the pervasive and aggressive advertising is a major reason for this problem
I wrote about how much Americans wagered on sports betting in 2025 and how it’s more than they spent on movies, art, museums and music combined. Read my article @fortunemagazine.bsky.social fortune.com/2026/07/26/g...

DRACULA is coming back to life with a brand new Audible Original audio drama this October. Jonathan Bailey voices Count Dracula, while Ella Purnell voices Mina. Aimee Lou Wood, David Jonsson, and Maggie Gyllenhaal also star. Mary Lambert (Pet Sematary) directs.
Tom Homan is going to cry the hardest when they put handcuffs on him.
Tomorrow, the House will vote on the NDAA, which includes a provision to merge parts of our military with the IDF. This amendment is an existential threat to American sovereignty and democracy. Every member of Congress must vote NO.
Sorry, can't come to the discord call right now I'm gaming on Phantasy Star Online for the SEGA Dreamcast.
FUCK AI SO MUCH OMG
New from 404 Media: a company is selling tons of old books specifically to AI companies and says they have a strong NDA to never reveal which AI company bought all of the books. They don't want headlines of 'we scanned and destroyed millions of books for AI' www.404media.co/ai-companies...
"Every year, Hollywood releases hundreds of movies. This...is one of them." #doomsday
Earlier today, we went to a vinyl expo in a nearby city (my uncle had a table there) and came away with a great eclectic mix of things. My favorite two picks were GO FOR BAROQUE: GREATEST HITS OF THE 1700S and a vintage spooky-sounds record that was "recorded live from Dracula's Castle!"

Way to ensure that I never come back to you, Netflix!
Netflix reveals that ~300 of their TV shows and movies have used generative AI during the production process • This includes concept art, pre-viz, and battle sequences • They plan to use it more going forward • Gave credit to Ben Affleck's AI company InterPositive for impact on their projects
OSSOFF: I expect tonight's speech to be equal parts pathetic and dangerous. I think we will hear from the world's most famous sore loser, a prime time presidential sour grapes address reheating, debunked conspiracy theories about an election in which he was soundly defeated.
Ossoff: "Here's what's going to happen tonight: the world's most famous sore loser will deliver a prime-time presidential sour grapes address to pursue his 6-year-old grievances about the 2020 election, while his war in the Middle East spirals out of control & the cost of living continues to rise.."
