Pakistan's performance has nothing to do with the merits of test cricket. It is the product of years of poor governance and an incoherent domestic system that can't reliably develop players and coaches and was firmly driven into the ground by a literal nationalist politician.

This gets at one of the biggest issues with franchise cricket: it doesn't invest back into the talent pool it draws from. Leagues will eventually run out of othet people's players and have no systems to develop the next generation. CPL might feel that first, but it won't be alone.
