Air quality. I grew up in the Los Angeles basin in the 70s and 80s and remember having to stay inside because the smog was so bad - Stage 2 smog alerts, they were called. Apparently they haven't had one of those since 1988. Haven't had a stage one smog alert since 2003.

If you cannot fly in the conditions then you divert and/or return to base. That aircraft was at 13,000 feet (it was supposed to be at 12,000 but failed to hold the altitude). If they were struggling without the GPS then you return. It does not matter if it is a medevac. They made bad decisions.
3,000+ likes on this article that is now pushed by yahoo and still, it changes nothing. There was a NOTAM on the GPS. Pilots are trained to fly & land without GPS. The crew failed to hold its assigned altitude which has nothing to do with GPS. If you can't fly without GPS, do not fly. Ever.

I get that separating stormwater and sewage has prevented unsanitary and odorific overflow in other cities, but I'd like to see some data on whether Nashville sewage even stinks before we invest more in these costly reforms.
The number of people on here who don't know anything about aviation but are 100% certain that lack of GPS is a excuse for an airplane to crash is stunning.
