People do not want their neighbors kidnapped. This isn’t just about the price of gas or unmet economic policies. Abolish ICE. None of us are free till all of us are free.

on one hand, i'm doing a lot of incredibly valuable things that my bosses (A) definitely notice, (B) aren't doing themselves, and (C) are paying me a lot more for on the other hand, sometimes those things are literal copy+paste -> 20 minutes later -> copy+paste
ah damn, RIP Margaret Hamilton. she took safety-critical software engineering seriously, and got people to the moon and back. news.mit.edu/2026/margare...
Our built infrastructure robs kids of their freedom of independent mobility. Streets are dominated by oversized vehicles, piloted by aggressive and distracted drivers where one mistake can turn lethal. We sacrificed child development to subsidize the auto industry.
I'm passionately against AI slop. I also use LLMs constantly to make tools and workflows art. To me, there is no contradiction because 'using AI' isn't one activity. Writing a prompt and building tools are different acts, with a fundamentally different relationship to conceptualisation and creation.

Yes, the score was 10-5, but Lázaro Montes hit a ball very, very far, so who really won tonight?
This seems like a privacy disaster. On top of any existing ORCA tracking that currently exists this ADDS exit tapping and forces youth to use identifiable cards even when they owe no fare. Hello, I'm a federal judge, tell me all the kids that went to pride please. 🤬 I hope I'm wrong about this.
The Sound Transit Board of Directors approved $6 million to design fare gate retrofits at up to 14 light rail stations. The gates would go online in 2029 or 2030, pending a further allocation of construction funding. Story: www.theurbanist.org/sound-transi...
Thinking on "high integrity" research, we push students to do slow science, to be upfront about limitations, to balance learning with exploiting. While obviously moral, it must also be the case that by doing this students eventually "win", else you're just creating a generation where... 1/2

DAWG WE'RE DOING STATE-RUN GAS PRICES AT PRICE CONTROLLED RATES DESPITE INCREASING SHORTAGES TO PACIFY THE PEOPLE AND THEY'RE SCREAMING ABOUT HOW THEIR OPPONENTS WANT COMMUNISM I AM GOING TO LOSE MY ENTIRE GODDAMN MIND
The White House launched 25 Freedom Fuel gas stations, all selling fuel at $3.47 a gallon.
It’s not hard to be a decent person and do the right thing. Let these kids be kids.
I know I write a post like this every month, but the degree to which the refusal to believe that maybe this is not just a fake bubble thing is getting weirder all the time. And the belief that it is fake removes important perspectives from AI policy making as people just wait for it to go away.
AI: virtually no subject provokes such vitriol in my communities. I can grant the haters many of its harms, but their solutions leave much to be desired. I fear for the future even as I wonder at the future we are living. And so, dear hater, I must write: shaping.systems/blog/ai-suck...
AI sucks. Hating it is not enough.

we do super appreciate it when our friends who don’t have kids build a relationship with ours though. ersatz aunts/uncles are great, it takes a village, fractional parenthood, all that good stuff
we are surrounded by cool androids and interesting computers
As a science fiction writer I really fucking resent tech bros for ruining the phrase "artificial intelligence." 80 years of it being all about cool androids and interesting computers destroyed by five years of "Spicy autocorrect making everything shittier for money." NEVER FORGIVE.

“AI is a bubble because I don’t want the consumer AI garbage being shoved my way” that intuition makes sense but the business value of AI isn’t in these moronic consumer applications the business value of AI is in business applications. and Anthropic is seeing a serious revenue ramp to prove it
