A lot of folks like to shout that climate change is “worse than scientists predicted!” But that’s not really true. It’s largely unfolding just as the science has predicted for many decades. My colleague, the brilliant Dr. Kate Marvel @drkatemarvel.bsky.social explains…

🚨 Scientists have been warning for more than a century that catastrophic weather events were inevitable if humanity kept emitting GHG's. But is it worse than even they expected? Climate scientist @drkatemarvel.bsky.social shares her expert perspective in our latest Insights: https://bit.ly/4wsYPMw

I keep sayin' that the economics of solar would/might save us. Better to hear it from someone with street cred. Please send this TED talk to everyone you know. Tell any and all politicians that they need to get on board. Don't fire up coal, gas, or nuclear—solar/wind is the only way. #billmckibben

So, I finally did a TED talk, and it got released today. I seem to have been quite intense, but I'm grateful they left in my Trump joke. www.ted.com/talks/bill_m...

The Trump administration appears set on providing the U.S. coal industry all it's asking for, from forcing aging power plants to stay open at great public cost to pushing taxpayer money at far-fetched plans to build new plants. Here's the state of play: www.canarymedia.com/articles/fos... #energysky

The coal industry gave Trump a wish list. He’s checking items off it.

The Trump admin is propping up the aging coal fleet despite the financial and environmental costs — and also making far-fetched plans to build new coal…

Scientists warned you about: ♨️ more/longer/hotter heatwaves (hot planet=hot weather) 🌀 stronger storms (warm water=hurricane food) 🌧️ downpours (warm air holds more water vapor) 🌵 droughts (warm air is thirstier) 🔥 fire weather (hotter, drier) 🌊 sea level rise (land ice melts, warm water expands)

In my opinion, there is essentially no sign that this is happening, Instead, what can only be described as collusion between AI facility construction and methane gas producers is taking place to set back the sustainability effort in large-scale computing to a horrible degree, and must be challenged.

After the AI Rush, Can Data Centers Reclaim Sustainability? Sustainability’s legacy was sidelined by AI growth and politics, but public scrutiny and hard economics are forcing a course correction. www.datacenterknowledge.com/sustainabili...

My latest: How Trump helped turn a solar farm in Nevada into a large data center by claiming both projects have essentially the same impacts, allowing the AI infrastructure to bypass new environmental review For @heatmap.news

How the Trump Administration Turned a Solar Farm Into a Data Center

The local government of Boulder City, Nevada had previously rejected a proposal for the computing facility, which would draw power from the existing electricity supply.
