So glad to finally share work years in the making! What started with fMRI effect size benchmarks ended up showing that conventional study planning detects ~half of expected brain effects, suggesting more distributed processes than the lit shows (+ new methods for mass univ effect/power estimation)
A recent paper by Epp et al. in NN claimed that ~40% of reported BOLD findings could be misinterpreted. In our reanalysis, we identified several statistical issues that, in our view, undermine these conclusions. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... 👇 1/11

Our new paper on aging and temporal order memory (with @jzacks.bsky.social) is now out in Psych & Aging! Using a narrative paradigm, we found that older adults have preserved event-based memory organization and show greater knowledge-related benefits in temporal memory than younger adults. 🌟

Lastly, on methodological note, peak-locking was essential here. Memory reactivation is temporally variable, so standard cue-locked analyses lacked the sensitivity needed to detect it. Aligning trials to the moment of maximal decoding revealed what stimulus-locked analyses could not. [7/7]
Nice study looking at memory cuing when recalling information about a movie (Sherlock - obvs). Within-event cuing little better than between-event cuing. In fact, gist recall is better following a cue from the preceding event which may help "maintain contiguity". www.frontiersin.org/journals/psy...
