This day in history. 1483. Pope Sixtus IV consecrated the Great Chapel at the Vatican. It seems that over time it came to be named after him. He was known for being pretty, pretty, pretty bald even by papal standards so I'm guessing they called it the Chromedome.

I was just listening to an Italian language tape tape on the way home from work, and it occurred to me that that “dinero” in Spanish came from the Latin word “denarius,” and my mind was completely blown. (I realized this because in Italian “denaro” is still a word for money).
