What do 16-18-year-olds actually think about Burnham? 🤔 When we asked our focus group what comes to mind, one answered: "Politics and pubs. The Smiths." But awareness is patchy. When asked if they know what his current role is, one said: "Is it Prime Minister? I want to say Prime Minister."

NEW headline voting intention from Ipsos 📊Labour have a 4 point lead, ahead of their Party Conference. 📊Labour (-1), Reform UK (-2) and the Lib Dems (-1) all see a small drop since last month. 📊Whereas the Conservatives (+3) and the Greens (+1) both see a slight increase since August.

LibDems are in Brighton today, but where is the party in our fragmented political system? In political purgatory. They are outshone by the Greens on the left. LibDems have been trailing in our VI polling for the last year, aemorrhaging their 2024 voters. Data from @ipsosintheuk.bsky.social

Let's talk about money for a second. One of the errors I think Reeves made is not explaining how economic growth will benefit people. It's not that Brits don't see the value in eco growth, they do!, but they're not willing to accept it at any cost (environment, immigration).
Farage's strength is obviously his strong base. All Brits: 23% satisfied Current Reform voters: 81% 2024 Reform voters: 74% I do think Clacton is useful in confirming the strength of this base. As previous by-elections showed Reform's weaknesses
Farage received a strong majority in the Clacton by-election yesterday increasing his total votes from the 2024 election. But public satisfaction with the Reform UK leader has been slowly declining. 🔵June 2025 - 34% satisfied, 49% dissatisfied. 🔵 August 2026 - 23% satisfied, 61% dissatisfied.

3 leaders who inherited a Labour party that few liked (40% when Corbyn took over, 38% once Starmer became LOTO, 30% now). Both Corbyn & Starmer managed to improve the image of the party before it crashed again. Burnham has a similar job, but his 50% liking him is what Starmer was seeing in 2020
Half of Brits say they like Andy Burnham (50%). He's considerably more liked than other party leaders and more liked than the Labour party itself - liked by only 30%.

New cabinet, new favourability ratings 📊 Burnham is the only Labour politician we polled who has a net positive favourability rating (+1). 2026 leavers Reeves (-41) and Starmer (-30) receive the lowest net ratings.
So much has changed in Britain since the 80s, but one thing is constant: opinion polls. Thanks to @mattchorley.bsky.social for the v interesting conversation about the newer and older polls with @patrick-pme.bsky.social and @jameskanag.bsky.social
"The new Prime Minister is wise to focus on the cost of living." Our new report finds that only 53% of Britons are satisfied with their standard of living today, compared with 72% in 1989. @keiranpedley.bsky.social writes for @politicshome.bsky.social 👇 https://tinyurl.com/49f5x5dm

The new Prime Minister is wise to focus on the cost of living. That is the issue that will define his premiership.
