Let’s get a move on with air-con grants 🆒 Despite Labour approving grants for air to air heating and cooling systems last year, 4 heatwaves later and they still aren’t available… Why? Because agencies haven’t approved an accreditation scheme 😐 It’s time to get it done👇

Hitchin’s Labour MP | Standing up for our towns & villages.
Thank you to everyone who joined a fantastic discussion at The Red Lion in Preston this evening 🍻 From revitalising local busses to how we deliver more affordable housing, it’s fair to say we covered plenty of ground!
Having spent many a glorious and grimy evening at gigs and playing at iconic local haunts like Bedford Esquires growing up, grassroots music venues have always been close to my heart. Delighted the Government is supporting them with at 20% business rates cut ✅
Thank you to everyone who came along to a great ‘Pint with your MP’ in Great Wymondley this evening 🍻 Lots done, lots to do, but always better for the chance to debate the issues that matter most to our community ✅
So I wrote about it again lads. See what you think. It's just my view of the Britain I think exists. Would love to know yours, and what you think our v specific silly British things are – because there were simply too many good ones to list www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Thanks @alistrathern.bsky.social - brilliant to have you with us. If you missed it, you can find the recording in Ali's thread below. Check out our reports on why policy making has served this group poorly and what government can do about it here: www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/our-work/top...

Boys from families living on low-incomes have been ‘left behind’ in early years policy making for decades. Great to join @instituteforgovernment.org.uk last month to talk about how we can put this right.

Every teenage boy deserves to feel seen, supported, and safe. Ensuring every young person has a trusted adult at school is vital in making that happen. Great to join Football Beyond Borders’ #LostBoysTaskforce to celebrate schools who are leading the way on this 👏
Why should the Burnham government prioritise targeted grid upgrades in its first 100 days? How would this save consumers money, revitalise our industries and lead to new and innovative growth? And what are constraint costs anyhow? 👇

After an eventful week, it’s always good to put the world to rights back home 🍻 Thank you to everyone who joined some great local discussions, events and visits over the last two days 👏 Have great weekends all!
This latest heatwave has shown us the existential consequences from climate change, and this Carbon Budget vote was an important step in meeting that challenge. Hear from @steveracemp.bsky.social, @alistrathern.bsky.social and @janetdaby.bsky.social on why it's crucial to back the targets 👇️
Our former chair @alistrathern.bsky.social has written a powerful reminder in his op-ed that climate impacts are not felt equally: "From parched fields to overheating classrooms and overstretched water systems, the impacts are tangible and unevenly felt. www.politicshome.com/opinion/arti...
These heatwaves show leadership cannot mean stepping back from climate action
The UK is in the throes of our second significant heatwave of the year. It is still early summer. That fact alone ought to give us pause.

Gareth Southgate’s BBC documentary spotlighted the powerful impact male role models like Hitchin’s Dan Gaze can have for young men growing up in Britain today. That’s why I’m urging the Government to encourage more men into teaching and youth work roles right across the country.

This bad take keeps getting worse. Reform have a problem with women. Even Reform women have a problem with women. Domestic abuse is not on the players of the match, it’s on the perpetrator.
Great to be able to introduce my Private Members Bill in Parliament yesterday to make relationship and sex education mandatory to 18. With 16–19-year-olds facing the highest rates of domestic abuse of any age group, the consequences of failing to act couldn’t be clearer.
With the worst corners of the internet peddling extreme views on what relationships should entail, we owe young people spaces and support to establish far better takes. But for too many, the space for these conversations in education ends at 16. My bill with @evawuk.bsky.social puts that right.
Great to co-sponsor Movember’s Speaker’s House reception to kick off Men’s Health Week and support the Extra Time campaign. If we are serious about men’s health across the life course, we also have to be serious about support for dads and giving fathers the chance to be present from the start
Gareth Southgate’s documentary highlighted our failure to do right by many boys growing up in Britain today. From paternity leave that supports present dads, to boosting male role models in schools, there’s lots we can improve. We’re determined to ensure Labour leads on this 👇
Today, I’m launching a High Court claim against xAI, the company behind Grok. I am just one of thousands of women and even children who have been the victim of abusive and sexualised AI deepfakes. This should never have happened – and xAI must be held accountable. www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...

Hollywood, Orlando, and now… Bedfordshire! Universal Studios construction is underway 🌍 When I first discussed the project hours after being elected, in a sleep deprived state I took some convincing I wasn’t dreaming! Fantastic to see that dream becoming a reality today 🎢
Over recess it was a privilege to join campaigners, policymakers and experts from across the world in Rio for the MenCare Change Maker summit. From fatherhood to men’s health and mental health, the summit was packed with insights from across the globe.
We can all play our part tackling stigmas around mental health and providing space for others to talk and open up. I'm determined to make sure I’m playing my part as our MP.
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of a social media education session with Everyone's Invited 🚸 They turned algorithms into ice creams ensuring young people understand the manipulation of content online and what's really going on behind the screens🍦
From today, over 6,000 renters in Hitchin will have stronger rights and protections as a result of Labour’s renters rights act 🏡 Including: ❌ No more no-fault evictions 💸 Limits on rent increases 💰 Ending bidding wars 🐾 Easier to have pets And much more!
Events in the Middle East have underlined the perils of remaining so exposed to volatile, international oil and gas markets. Great to join @newstatesman1913.bsky.social yesterday to talk about how bold market reform and investment in clean, homegrown power can put that right.
Big news on energy market reform today. As we deliver the transition to clean, secure, renewable power, it’s vital we build a system that works for households and business, not profiteers. Today’s announcement shows the Government is determined to deliver exactly that ✅
Great conversations out at Hitchin Sainsbury’s this morning 💬 A big thank you to everyone who stopped to chat!
