Had a great day in the life of an energy nerd yesterday visiting the East Anglia One offshore wind farm with ScottishPower Renewables. It’s a 680MW capacity site, and half of it is UK content - meaning it was made here, boosting supply chains and supporting UK jobs.
Ed's legacy in DESNZ is not only to have stood firm in the face of climate sceptics, but to have advanced an electorally popular argument on climate, creating a foundation which this and future governments can use to drive sustained action.

I do wonder if Reform have actually thought about how they would enforce this in the six counties.
Once you start mass removal of citizenship on political grounds you've stopped functioning as a viable democratic state. But that was always where this agenda was heading.

I found this thread very interesting – but I think there is a risk that we become too ‘doomster’ about wind (vs solar.) So, a thread of my own! Spanish renewable energy is cheap partially because the country is very suitable for solar, yes, but they also have a lot of onshore wind…
Left Outside@leftoutside.bsky.social · 4w agoUK bet big on wind and we lost not because it was a bad bet, but solar is just miles better than wind and we're in the wrong place for it. Its certain we'll have higher energy costs and a less industrial economy than Spain by 2050 for that reason. And we'll have to spend more on grid to achieve it.

Why should the Burnham government prioritise targeted grid upgrades in its first 100 days? How would this save consumers money, revitalise our industries and lead to new and innovative growth? And what are constraint costs anyhow? 👇

The best argument for building more homes is that everyone can be better off: gentle density in urban centres, with good connectivity across the country, is politically popular, and the best thing Britain could do for growth.
