Coal miners in central Appalachia are suffering from the highest rates of black lung in 50 years. This comes after Trump cancelled regulations limiting toxic silica dust in mines, which would have prevented at least 1,067 deaths and 3,746 black lung cases.

Apparently there are at least three probable cases of a rare bacterial illness known as tularemia, or "rabbit fever,” in New York; and while I suppose it’s always worthwhile to learn something new, at this point I’m getting tired of learning about new illnesses.
We had something like 50 people felting together today, which was pretty lovely!
At one point in my life I stayed up very late during conferences, stressing about my talk or out socializing in bars anyway tonight I'm up too late again because we were busy prepping for our craft night tomorrow, including felting some example bird pins to encourage folks to join us

It's time for a 9 o'clock photo, and here's a view looking westward towards the Cascades from Bend's Pilot Butte. This is a cinder cone volcano in the east side residential area of the city. 19 May 2018
On this day in 1944, the Gestapo found Anne Frank and her family in their Secret Annex. Her diary stands as a warning against hatred and persecution. Eighty years later, we should recognize the warning signs before it’s too late.🙂↕️
Delighted to see Missouri Republicans getting their asses handed to them over trying to make citizen-initiated amendments harder to get on the ballot.

Will the proposed Trump statue be shaped like a urinal?
We have them too! In Killarney Lake next to Mt Work, if you’re nearby, and Shawnigan Lake if you’re over the Malahat. I have added an article with the UBC researcher because it’s interesting and also the photo is exactly how I would expect a jellyfish researcher to celebrate catching their subject:
It's that time of year! Freshwater jellyfish are beginning their annual blooms in the northern hemisphere! Look for these ghostly creatures in lakes and ponds from Spain to San Fransisco, Seattle to Singapore! 🪼 Craspedacusta sowerbii 📸 in ALT from @inaturalist.bsky.social

I can remember in 2008 the sense of how the arrival of a better America would accompany this man's election. I still believe his message of hope is the right one. It is a strategy. Happy birthday, Mr President!
Here’s the key takeaway from our report: Epstein couldn’t have carried out his trafficking and criminal activity without the help of the highest ranking employees and executives at the most powerful banks in the world. Wall Street is complicit in Epstein’s crimes from top to bottom.
"... the clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings, and you’re still more sensitive. That’s quite an achievement.” I love this woman! I think it's unfortunate that political machination must go there... but here we are. Ridicule is the sincerest form of [shut up and go the fuck away].
On March 26, 2026, during a debate on violence against women in Germany’s Bundestag, left-wing MP Kathrin Gebel was repeatedly interrupted by AfD MP Martin Reichardt. She responded: “Mr. Reichardt, the clitoris has 3,000 nerve endings, and you’re still more sensitive. That’s quite an achievement.”
The older I get the more I understand why cats just walk away mid conversation.
I hear people say this is a rural, conservative district. Pacific County voted for the democratic presidential candidate from Eisenhower to Trump. It’s about as blue as one can get by that measure. Dems can win in these places too.
Note: based on recent polling, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez is projected to lose to John Braun, but “Generic Democrat” polls ahead of “Generic Republican” in the district. Brent’s basically what if you airdropped Brad Lander into southwest WA- he fits the Generic Dem label much better than MGP does.
Hey Washington? You sure you want to pass a ballot measure supported by *this party* that would force grade school girls to have their genitals examined before participating in sports?
If u think the GOP Rep Max Miller saga can't get any worse, think again Besides the fact that he threw hot water on his wife & broke his 2 yr old daughters collarbone, records now show he shared nude pics of his 2 year old daughter I just can't with this party anymore. They all fucking suck
Candidates having someone select voters for them isn’t at all “we the people”

I get very caught up in tiny optimistic stories, which this year's @amornith.bsky.social meeting centers This morning's plenary by Massachusetts Audubon's Lyra Brennan included a story of a volunteer who found a Piping Plover nest buried by a dune, dug out the female and eggs, and they *all lived*!
