By a 9-0 vote, the Seattle City Council just sent a renewal of the 2020 Seattle Transit Measure to voters this November. The 0.3% sales tax measure will ramp up the city's supplemental Metro bus service by 100,000 hours per year, or around a third, on top of funding other city transit programs.

One of the best things about urban university campuses is that they are open to the public. You can get water and air conditioning, all accessible from public transit. Very relevant this week as Seattle will probably hit 90 F

We need anticorruption agencies with real teeth all the way from the local to federal level, and we need it yesterday. This needs to become the new litmus test of holding public office

GOOD NEWS: Katie Wilson's proposed Seattle Transit Measure renewal will be maintained as a full ten-year, 0.3% measure after amendments to water it down were defeated. The council is still deliberating on other amendments, but those were the big ones on deck today.

As Mayor, Katie Wilson Doesn't Travel Much. When She Does, You'll Find Her in 23F. Unlike her predecessor, who traveled first-class and was out of town for much of his term, Wilson rides in coach and has mostly stayed in Seattle.

my most authoritarian belief is probably that I'm basically fine with passive automated surveillance in public spaces especially wrt to cars. I think the backlash to speed cameras and automated license plate readers is mostly stupid given the clear public safety benefits.

I hate this idea that we must coddle drivers and be really nice to them when pushing for change. We've been asking drivers nicely to not kill us for years and in return we get treated as hysterical, entitled assholes. So we may as well just flat-out demand the safer streets we all deserve.

Honestly, I'm worried about the recent stagnation in housing starts. It predates the Wilson admin, and has more to do with interest rates than anything else, but we need to move more aggressively to support the new housing pipeline.
